Yes Scrooge I am
I have some good news.
A close family member took one look at my disaster area of a bathroom the other day and promptly declared they would pay for me to get it done ! It has been a depressing room and not a nice place to be for some months. Been a case of putting up with it as I can't afford to do it. I'm so grateful.
So quotes and plumbers in all week and job planned for next month. Will continue with my painting plans at the same time.
Not selected for interview on two job applications, but that's okay. The right job is just around the corner. I know it.
Have been seriously playing with budgets and snowball, I will beat this block I have over staying within grocery budget. With half term and family here things will be chaotic this week. But I'm planning a proper spending diary fest from the beginning of November.
Things are on the up.DC.

Hiya DC,
Just popping in to see what's going on with you as you've not been around on the other thread so much. So pleased for you about your bathroom, it's one of the smallest rooms in the house but having a nice bathroom is worth it's weight! Good luck with the job hunting, I've been putting it on hold now for a few weeks as I need to decorate my whole place  and need xmas and Feb half term to do it in!
Hope you're okay hunny xxDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

That is lovely news about the bathroom - I bet it will make a huge difference when it is done :TSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

Hi DC
I lost your diary for a while, so sorry not to have commented.
It sounds like you STILL have a lot on in your life, so my commiserations on that.
What a lovely surprise to have someone pay for your bath room, I bet that will help with your overall mood too. Just think candles round the new bath etc....:)
Well done on keeping on with the painting. I am sure that you would make a better job of it than I would lol.
As regards to the money. Have you done an SOA with the money you are not paying to child tax credits included? Also now that you have paid them back, does that mean that you are now going to get some money from them?
I realise that with two children it might be difficult, but have you thought about getting another paid job to boost your income, maybe between now and christmas? I am not in the UK so don't know how hard say cleaning jobs or similar are to get, but it would mean that all the wages for that could be put to debt busting....
And of course your books would balance if you finally quit smoking....:D
Have you thought about maybe only getting 6 months car insurance this time, just so that you can move it to a different time of the year for the next renewal? That way it would be one less bill to pay just before christmas. Yes it would cost more this time around, but would allow you to spread out things a bit more.
After Hypno's success with it, have you thought about checking out whether you are in the correct council tax band? Every little helps. And don't forget to check on the voucher board for Tesco money off vouchers. Good way to boost your points or get free delivery
keep on going you WILL get there
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Thanks for all your lovely posts.
Chev, jobwise because I'm part time I'm really looking to step up to full time again. I hate having to rely on tax credits, and after the overpayment debacle I loathe it even more, so I look forward to finding something to take me further up the income ladder.
My SOA reads quite healthily, it is just my budgeting skills that let me down. Snowball has DFD of Nov 2012, and that's realistic payments. I was flying with all guns blazing in July, looking forward to that extra £100 a month that the tax credits was claiming back. Then the car park incident seemed to throweverything out of kilter, overdraft was in full use.
So I've come out the other side, a little tender and more cautious. I take what you are saying about the car insurance though, I've not thought of that.
DH questioned that council tax band when we first moved here, and the water rates are sky high. Always on a tesco voucher hunt. Online really is the only way for me to shop.
Once the bathroom is done there will only be the hall and utility room to see to. Utility room is another big project so we'll just leave that be for now. The hall/stairs are too high for me to attempt so I'll have to get a professional in for them.
A fitting name for November....hmm that's a tough one.
So all in all things are moving.DC.
