Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 23rd July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good
Good Morning to all today, I finally have a day off, really enjoying working in the shop and being on my own without Manager from hell contradicting herself every 5 mins and telling me I am doing things wrong!!! Shop is still standing and we are all having a great time while getting the job done! I am up because the dog started barking which woke me and then my joint pain would not let me go back to sleep so here I am.
Because of the long hours and the falling asleep when I get in not much OS going on but still menu planning and stuff. OH is helping with the cooking which is great but that means I get to wash up which is usually his job as I have cooked!!
First day of the summer holidays for us and DD3 and I are going to go out and do something, not sure what yet. It is my birthday tomorrow but I am working so not sure we will do anything til Saturday when I am also working but will not have to get up the next day so early as not open on Sunday.
Going to have porridge for breakfast
Lunch out with DD3 - could be McD - she gets one a month and not had it yet she reminded me. I have a token for free coffee so that is possible.
Tea is going to be Chicken and Chick pea chilli which is great as you only need one chicken breast for 4 people!
Have a fab day all you OSers.
Hugs to all who need or want one.

Good morning, Hermoine, and all who follow.
Hermoine - I'm glad you're enjoying your work!
Well, after a lovely day yesterday, it started to rain at about 5pm and hasn't stopped since. Just as well I got all the sheets and towels line-dried yesterday and don't have any washing today. I do have a big pile of ironing which keeps looking at me, though. Also looking at me is three kilos of runner beans that DH was given yesterday. They just need topping and tailing, then blanching for the freezer, but I think it will take a while. I shall sit at the kitchen table and do them, rather than stand at the sink.
Dinner tonight is mince, probably with in onion gravy, with mushrooms and some of the runner beans. I shall saute potatoes to go with it. Pudding will be yet more pineapple from the huge one I bought at the weekend, which seems to be never-ending.
Well, I'm going to have a shower, then I'll try and catch up with the rest of yesterday's thread.
Hope you all have a great day and that the weather is improving over there!

Morning.
Not raining here yet which makes a change.
Had an evening out last night in St Ives. A friend treated us to a meal at a beach restaurant. Can't say I was impressed! I suppose it was well presented and tasty, but I don't go for the meals where you get your pureed veg spread across the plate in a thin layer and the tiny amount of meat in a tall pile. £18 for a few mouthfulls....... Not my thing. Give me a pub roast anyday.
Work today, kids have broken up from school so no packed lunches to make.
Have a good dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone.
Well clear blue sky here at the moment. I've forgotten what it looks like to be honestNot sure if its going to stay that way but we'll see........
Tried to take my library books back yesterday but completely forgot the place is closed on a Weds grrrrrrr. So in addition to stocking up on the super 6 at Aldi I had 3 very large and very heavy books to add to the weight (not to mention the kids!). Still I walked all the way up to the main shopping area and back again, fully laden, with the double buggy - now if that doesn't shift some calories nothing will!!!
Went and bought a new dining table yesterday. It's reduced in Homebase and if we opened a store card we got another 10% off the price. The best thing is we didn't have to use the store card account to pay for it so as soon as the card comes through we shall cancel the account. Its a round extending one as it will give us more room day to day in the dining area (my kitchen and dining is open plan) so with the likelihood of more kids running around a little extra space is needed. Its nice and sturdy and only a couple of inches shorter when fully extended than our current glass rectangular table. My mum fancies our old table as hers is on it's last legs so once ours is delivered next monday she can have this one to try. If she doesnt like it we'll sell it.
Have a friend coming this morning so going to whip up a batch of twinks hob nobs as they are nice and quick to do.
OS wise not much else going on. Washing seems to be never ending and I haven't even looked at the ironing pile!!!
Not sure what's for tea yet, I must, must, must get back into meal planning and being more organised
Halight - DWP are a joke. I can't believe they've decided you're fit to work.
Diva - hope you have some news of Tristan xx
Ivyleaf - (if you can read this!) hope power is restored to you ASAP!
Fairy Elephant - good luck with the scan today. Sorry your work are mucking you about and really sorry to hear about your dad being sectioned :grouphug:
Right off to feed DD who decided she wanted to get up at 5.25 today
Have a good day all OS or not.
Edited to add:
Taplady - Happy Birthday - have a great day
NPM - hope you don't have the lurgy and are back on your feet as soon as xI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning All
Didnt catch up with the thread yesterday so (((hugs))) to anyone who needs one - will try and catch up later.
Enjoying the peace and quiet at the mo before everyone wakes up. Just about to empty the dw and clean the kitchen worktops. Ended up cleaning my cooker and hood yesterday and managed to get the glass doors spotless (for the first time!) with the bar keepers friend - fantastic stuff. Also cleaned the kitchen windows and blinds as I cant function well when my kitchen is a mess.
Think will just wash some towels today so I dont add to the ironing pile :rotfl:if it doesnt rain am taking the kids to tesco for breakfast and right next door is a lovely park they have always wanted to visit, its right on the river so I will settle with a book. If it rains we will be having an in day - possible playing the Wii or pool.
Pork Belly slices with hoisin marinade and egg fried rice for dinner tonight - will cook them all day in the slow cooker then finish them off in the oven - hope this will be well received as is nice and cheap & I would like to add it to my regular meal plan.
This afternoon I really must get some paperwork and ironing done - its all getting too much behind for my liking.
Anyway, off now, have a great day.

Good Morning Chums ,well I'm back from Amsterdam, and yes we had a great time.Very expensive as the exchange rate is almost £1 to a Euro. The concert was very good apart from Bono doing his usual bit of preaching about how we should all spend more on world poverty and saving the third world, plus a long speech about someone from Burma who has been under house arrest for almost 20 years. Not a lot I can do about it I'm afraid, and the gap between Snow Patrol leaving the stage, and U2 coming on was nearly 50 minutes. It was very hot and humid and people were flaking out with the heat at times.
I can agree that poverty in the third world is appalling and we all need to do our bit to help, which in my case is donating to Oxfam, but there were quite a few who were getting a bit cheesed off with his pontificating. When you have paid almost a £100 for a ticket to see him, and he is almost an hour late coming on stage it seems a bit rich to be preached at.There was one woman there who unfurled a big banner saying 'No Preaching Irish, Just Sing' and I could understand why.She was bundled out of the Stadium by four burly bouncers .
The set was amazing, and my DD was so pleased at being able to see her favourite group though. We were very tired as we didn't get back to our hotel until almost 1.00.a.m. and we had to be up again at 5.15.a.m. to check out and get a cab to the airport. We wanted to change out flights as our original one had been cancelled and BA had put everyone on an early flight, but to catch a later flight would have cost me another £268 and I said I would rather lose a bit of sleep and use the cash for our family holiday next month on the Isle of Wight. So last night I was in bed before 10 and had a good nights sleep, and feel more human today.Spent a fortune in two days but it was worth it to see my smashing DD's face and it was for her forthcoming 40th birthday.Plus of course I treated myself to some nice Chanel No.5.
I have shopping to get this morning and a few errands to do.The weather looks a bit damp at the moment I got the washing done yesterday afternoon and just managed to get it dry before the rain started last night, but the ironing can wait for another day I think.
All the children have broken up from school now so I will be busy for the next few weeks I think.Hope everyone has a good day
Cheers all

JackieO - it's for that reason I cannot stand Bono. He doesn't mind people paying for his concert tickets but then stands and lectures on world poverty and how to end it. Perhaps he should donate all your money given to him for the concert to saving the third world. I don't know how much he personally gives to charity but I do take the hump over slebs berating me for my spending choices when I don't have the same level of disposable income as them.
Sorry rant over, I'll get off my soap box........;)I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Hi all
Didn`t get back on here yesterday as was feeling ill....very tired, sore throat and aching everywhere..but no temp so I dont think its piggy flu:rolleyes:
OH eventually surfaced at 5 and ran me a bath, I had a lie down while he looked after DS then I went to bed at 7:eek:..slept through apart from a couple of times DS got me up then finally got up at 5 30 with him. Feel a bit better today just have a chesty cough and aches.
This is when you could do with relatives nearby when you are both ill with a little one to care for. I do feel hot now come to think of it so may have to check temp....I hope I don`t have it as we are off to my parents in Edinburgh on Sat for a week:rolleyes:
Not much planned today....psyching DS up for his party he is going to at 3...not expecting him to stay long.Lamewolf I am with you on parties actually.....don`t like them, am not into being with lots of people, not very sociable really and prefer being at home with my family.
Am taking DS to Walking with Dinasaurs is Sheffield tomorrow night.....it will be busy but he loves dinasaurs so much I thought we would give him the chance to try it.
not sure whats for tea...may try and make a shepherds pie if I feel up to it.
Halight I cant believe how the DWP are treating you...its disgraceful.
FE good luck with the scan:T....sorry about your dad but hopefully it will be a start in getting him more stable and give your mum a rest.
MSD hope things are ok
Happy Birthday Taplady0 -
:hello:Good morning!
We had a lovely evening out last night. Ds came to visit, staying overnight (so I must go start breakfast for him soon - scrambled eggs on toast.) We treated ourselves to an earlybird deal at our local harvester and it was really nice! We have avoided the place in the past as the food was dire but it has definately improved.
Today I have french beans and runner beans to blanch and freeze. I now have an empty freezer to fill (had to defrost it on Monday) so will be using up a lot of veg and make some curry, spaghetti sauce, cream of veg soup and another courgette and tomato bake for the freezer. I always feel better when I know I have some home made "ready meals" in.
Other than that ds is going to show me how to use the wii fit so that I can start to get some exercise at home. Have a lovely day
Happy Birthday Taplady! :bdaycake:

Morning all,
Looks a bit better here today, i can also see blue sky :T
Taplady :bdaycake::bdaycake:Happy birthday hun, hope you have a great day xxxx
Off to work today, loads to do, so the day should fly by, also dd has finished school now, so i don't have to run her and the dog any where, so for the next 6 weeks I have a more gentle start to the day.
Yesterday dd phoned me at 10 to say school had finished early and that she was round a mates, apparantly the school had a gas leak and sent all the children home, without informing that parents , I tried to phone all morning, but got no answer, I will be having words with them, there are children as young as 11 there.
Halight , I hope your headache eases off soon xx
FE good luck for the scan xx
Hugs to all in need
Sausage chips and beans for tea :T
Have good days all xx0
