Maybe the best time to close the account would be on the 1 august to save also the two days of week-end at the beginning of July.
I am also considering to keep it open anyway with 1 pounds just in case something good emerges in the future0 -

Hi,
I have read back the T&C and it does not state anywhere that you need to keep the balance over 500+. It only says you must deposit 500+ initially (which we all did) and have 500+ to get interest, but there is no requirement to have 500 pounds to keep the account alive.
So I think you can leave just 1 pound in the account assuming you can renounce to any interest on it.... (even assuming a 5% net on 1 pound, it would only be a 5p loss in a year leaving that pound there; well worth in my view to avoid having to reopen the account in the future)6.2 You will receive interest on your Online Saver
for the previous calendar month for all days
during that month when you have a cleared
balance of £500 or more provided you have not
made any withdrawal throughout that month or
closed your account (as set out in Clause 7.1 or
7.2 below).0 -
I'm against the idea of keeping it open just on the basis I don't like banks placing a restriction on withdrawing during a month causing a loss of interest. There's plenty of competition out there.0

Hi,
Well the deadline(easter weekend offer) is up for the £20 bonus from HSBC and I haven't got mine yet. Is there anyone else still waiting? I seem to have acquired 56p interest on the online saver but thats about it. Sounds like a nice email is required to hsbc. They have been totally useless. Sallysaver0 -
Well fair play to them my wife and I both applied for and got a credit card and an on line savings account. We both got £20 credited to our savings accounts. My wife has a current account with them which was credited with £20 for the credit card application. I don't so I received a cheque this morning. The really funny thing is that after taking 6 weeks to issue credit cards and having problems with things being "lost in the post" etc etc they have continued the inefficiency and sent me 2 seperate cheques! Have to find a charity for the extra £20.
My credit card is now being cancelled and I've just transferred the money out of the on line a/c. You don't have to leave £1 in or anything so I'll just lose a few days interest. Between us we got £100 (should have been £80) so it was well worth the hassle but they haven't done anything that would encourage me to actually use them for my banking.0 -
I applied for the credit card at Easter and got it. But I had trouble activating it, in fact it has still not been activated as I have to go into a branch. So I was rather surprised today to find a cheque for £20 in this morning's post. Wish I'd got OH to apply for one now.Books - the original virtual reality.

Hi,
Update on my £20 bonus payments. I emailed HSBC 2 days ago and hey presto today I received an answer BUT only regards the credit card account. Unlike the previous poster, it will not be arriving by cheque (although I didn't have any trouble activating the card) it will be administered as and when I use the credit card for the first time. The current account and online saver were not mentioned (both accounts are up and running, although the online saver was a nightmare to open) so I have emailed them again this morning to verify the situation. I will keep you informed. Sallysaver0 -
Has anyone managed to empty their online saver?
On Monday, unless it was a dream, I added a payee ( me with a different bank) and organised a transfer. I expected it to take 3 days. Just checked and nothing there. Checked HSBC site and it says I currently have no payees set up?
Weird.
Will try again.0
