For the record, I'm still waiting for the follow-up to their e-mail confirmation to my Easter Online Savings Account application.

If they are not very careful, I will have spent the £500 destined for that account before they contact me again!

Ditto. No response from Easter savings account application.

    Hi,
Well it seems as though they have accepted me as one of their valued customers!. Yesterday I received some of the papers back including my verification papers (i.e. Utility bill & Bank Statement) I actually applied for the online saver, current account (bank saver plus) and credit card, thus hopefully earning me £60. Debit card, cheque book and pin number are being despatched separately. However, I was very surprised to find included yearly worldwide travel insurance. Of course, I may be misreading information here, but did any other applicants know it was to be included in this deal? Regards- Sallysaver

If you look at the Bank Account Plus page at http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/current-accounts/bank-account-plus , you will see that the worldwide family travel insurance is one of the benefits that you get for your £9.95. If you cancel the account to avoid the monthly fee, the insurance will presumably be cancelled at the same time.

    Regards,

    Rob

Unless you plan to make frequent use of the travel insurance, by my reckoning, you are up to £60 out of pocket even with the £60 they gave you. There's no way I'd pay £9.95 for a current account and it goes up to £12.95 after 6 months. Furthermore, you are locked into it for a a minimum of 12 months.

    HI,
Thanks salsadanca and swipe. Although the paperwork came yesterday, I only just found time to read it this evening and I too have noticed the charges. Actually it goes up after 6 months. I can assure you it will be totally cancelled tomorrow. On refelction I am sure I only applied for the ordinary cheque book account but can't be certain. Once again, thanks for the info - sallysaver

Sally, I have a normal current account with HSBC and am happy with it. I opened up another regular saver with them last week and luckily when you sign up to any product with them you get a 14 day cooling off period. So, if I were you I'd just get them to amend the details to a basic current account instead and pocket the £60 with no catches.

    Hi,
Thanks swipe for your advice. Good idea. What I'll do for £60!. Having said that, I might not get the incentive, as its not the Easter weekend anymore, but nonetheless, I'll give it my best shot. Regards -sallysaver

Just to let you all know, I phoned HSBC on Friday to chase them up re my savings account (on their "open a savings account" number 0800 032 4729). They apologised for the delay and, as I already have a credit card with them, were able to activate my account straight away over the phone. I made a payment in and the man said that my £20 would be awarded 15 days after my payment hits the account.

I also asked (in general terms) about my boyfriend and mother's applications as they are not existing customers. He said that letters should be arriving with most people this coming week as they were overwhelmed by the number of applications. What did they expect??

I received a letter follwing the application for the online saving.
They ask to call a freephone number with a debit card at hand. Not done it yet, but will probably have it opened soon. A bit surprised that to get the online saver you have to do it all by phone.
