Phoned today as intended. They wouldn't open the a/c over the phone without an 8-figure code which is in 'the letter'.
Apparently that is on its way to me - posted 2nd class on May 3rd!
I can wait.
codetown - I'm sure it's just setting the a/c up that has to be done by phone. Once that's done it will be all online - I assume!0 -
I had my letter today (although no longer needed) which does indeed have an 8-figure code, but don't know why they insisted on that for you schiff as they just told me to ignore it when it arrived. Still, I'm sure yours will be here soon...
As soon as he'd activated it then the account showed on my HSBC online banking, so yes, it's all online after the initial deposit.0 -
I have just received a letter dated 3rd May asking me to call. No mention of proving my identity ( utility bill several posts up). Have I missed another letter? Wasn't going to bother but am tempted again.0

On 2nd May I had been told that a letter had been sent on 19th April, which I had never received.
When I phoned to-day, a helpful advisor opened the account for me there and then as I am an existing customer already.

Got the 8 digits code and have e-saver up and running already.
See if I get £20 at end the of June 060 -
I got a letter today saying they sent out a letter on 18 April to which I had not responded. So did the wife. Yeah right. Clearly from the above no such letter was ever sent out. Now have to phone them during business hours (no doubt to speak to someone in India where it will be in the middle of the night!).
I had a similar letter a couple of days ago regarding the credit card that I had applied for. Told me to ring them. Once I had answered about 6 pieces of security info the lady said all she needed to confirm was that I was the person who signed the application!

I phoned them last week to ask what was happening to my credit card application. They said that the £6K balance transfer request was a problem, but I could have £3K. So I said "fine". Nothing heard or seen since then.Happy chappy0

This is all a bit worrying. Do you think they will pay the £20. It's just not worth it otherwise.0

I went through the phone number and had it all set-up in less than 15 minutes. I would say that in terms of easiness this account is super.
Sometime ago I had tried the Cahoot, but just stopped given the complications in the amount of documentation they required.
In here it was simply the online form, a 1-page letter from them and a 15 minute call (to their freephone number) confirming my details to have it all running. Very easy and the HSBC interface seems to be user-friendly as well.0 -
Hi All,
Do they tell you your account number over the phone so you can register for their online banking straight away, or does that all come in the post.
As its an Online Saver, therefore has to have online access, maybe they just send you it anyway!
Intend to phone up for mine on Friday, I too recieved my letter yesterday, with them claiming to have send one in April.
Cheers
