Ok asked Hsbc to open account with £501 off debit card they have taken that amount from my current account but only credited my online saver with £500. They "lost" a pound.

Hit help given a 0845 number to ring, dulley ring put on hold for 10min then told can only deal with Acc online though notes and to contact them that way. anyway about to write note any suggestions?post in thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=2159968#

If you have the sort code & account number plus D.O.B and pin that you gave them, you can set up online banking yourself as it will then issue IB number write this down as you will need this to log in next time. that easy I did it while on the phone to them and they where faffing trying to work out if my card had an issue number.

PS: when using IB number to log in you must put IB at the begining.
Ok still nothing in the post so am going to try this idea.
was given a 14 digit number. is it safe to assume the first 6 is the sort code and remaining 8 my account number?

I'm a bit cheesed off with HSBC now. Called the 0800 number thinking they could very quickly tell me if it was the first 6 or last 6 digits of the number which was the sort code.
Person told me that they couldn't help and recommended that I call an 0845 IB helpline who "might" be able to help!
They are obviously only interested in opening accounts not aftercare.
Am dubious whether I will receive a letter seeing as noone on here got the 19 April letter.

Not sure what number you refer to. But I am sure there is no problem whatsoever for them to find out the sort code and account number for you. Don't ask difficult questions like what is representing the first 6 digits of this number, but simply ask: what is my sort code and account number and they will look it up on their PCs.

Do not confude this number with the Internet number (IBxxxxxxx) which is the username to access online. I was regularly given the sort code and account number first time I called to set it up. If they did not do this for you, call again the 0800 number and thell them you have real difficulties without that data as you need to make a deposit.

If you can access to the Online Banking, then the sort code and account number is printed in your details. If you can't again you shuld call HSBC and they will tell you what to do to get in!

Thanks brranger, it all worked. As you said, the sort code was the first 6 digits. Shame HSBC couldn't have told me that.

  • Well what can I say. I haven't looked at this thread in ages. I applied, my wife applied. Both got on-line saver relatively quickly. Both applied for credit card, both had letters go "missing", I had credit card that didn't arrive just picked replacement up from branch today, nearly 7 weeks to get a credit card? Unbelieveably crap. My wife still hasn't got hers yet, she went to branch today and apparantly it will be here next week. They had problems with her security details apparanty (another letter that went missing) she's only been with the HSbC for 24 yers!! Must have been really difficult t confirm who she was! We've both had nightmares speaking to India and with phone numbers that have taped messages sending us round in circles. Oh and now I've finally got the credit card it's come with an "Important changes" leaflet saying there is now a 2% balance transfer charge. Was it worth all the hassle for £40 each? Well I'll believe it when I see it and this inept organization would have to pay me a hell of a lot more than that to stay with them. Apologies to everyone for starting the thread in the first place! I've been thanked a few times, I think it's lucky thanks can't be revoked!

Anyone actually seen the £20 money? Wondering whether it is worth getting Martin involved in embarrassing them into paying up.
