had a look at it, i've been to that sort of thing in the past. if he's going to that meeting why not ask him if he'd mind going to an aa meeting too? he'd meet people with the same problem there.... and could build a socail life around the fellowship. and see people that have recovered from alcoholism and are living a life behond their wildesst dreams. If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0

Rational Recovery doesn't agree with AA as it feels that "Recovery groups interfere with your recovery by attacking your confidence in your own ability to abstain without group support."
RR seems to suggest that a lot of the things that AA say, are just the 'addictive voice' talking, and that we should ignore the part of us that tells us that we will fail if we don't do x, y or z.
I agree that knowing other recovering alcoholics can be beneficial, it is inspiring to hear of people with decades of sobriety, but you don't nessercarly need to get that from AA.
I sound like I'm anti AA and pro RR don't I? I'm not, I've got good reason to support AA, but different strokes for different folks.
One think that always amazes me, is how much all recovering alcoholics care so much about other people. I belong to a couple of forums, and regularly get messages from people I don't know asking how I'm doing, and they update me with their progress. We are a family
One thing, Lewt, do you think of yourself as a recovering alcoholic, or a recovered alcoholic?Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Why do they have meetings then? [STRIKE]whats the rate for sucsess in this?[/STRIKE] nevermind it dont matter. anyone who has maintianed to stay free from drinking well done. it's just i had the mind of an alky before i drunk.(selfish, self seeking, behavoir, inconsidarate, afarid of nearly everything, bloody good at lieing to my self& a few more things) and i belive that needs to be changed to. through a spirtual awaking as a result of the steps, all the steps inculded a full step 9.
recovering at the moment... i aint made all my amends. im starting astep study group soon so i can do mine gain and learn how to take people through the steps myself.
one day i will be recovered though hopefully.
Anyone that in AA that doubts that should look in the first page of the big book before the preface of forewords. "This is the story of how thousands of men and women have Recovered from alcoholism"
then again it cause's people to get upset if you introduce yourself as such in some AA meetings so i may not introduce myself. i aint sure my sponser says it and lots of people i know can trace their sponsers back to bill.w do it to. i m not sure bill did tho lol.
one day when C.A is masive and on everyday i wont have that problem as it seems kinda "if it aint in the book then it aint right2 kinda thing know what i mean ?If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -
