Going well for me, although I am getting serious amounts of flak to finish off the kitchen, I mean, I only started it a couple of years ago.

ok al, i dont particuly think your right and peple will learn for them selves. its the programm of aa that works not just going to meetings. what ive been trying to say is that the program works for people who are prepared to do the work. councilling and drinks dairys didnt work for me and a great deal of people ive met if i only went to aa meetings im fairly sure i'd drink when i got home from meetings? whats the sucess of this bored? the stats from aa are from people who have walked through the doors i think. so many people come once never to be seen again. its also the nature of the illness that it tell people we dont have it. or we can get away with having one.

jayne i aint cured but i've recovered form the seemly hopeless state of body and mind that is alcoholism. through pratising the steps everyday. i aint drank to today and im pretty sure i wont tomorrow. how you doing?

All, i'll be avaible on PM if advice is needed as this board just winds me up so im going to stay away. and speak to people at the meetings to pass on what ive learned and also learn more. sadly this thread is conter productive to me and i find it hard to be spirtaul with some people. see ya good luck.

    Hi all :hello:

i havnt posted on here for a very long while, but i always knew one day i would be driven to come back and comment, and then this post came along..........

and i am forced to add my tuppence worth. as many of you know, i post on here as the wife of a guy who has battled the alcohol problems for many years, and i have fought his battles with him.

lewt i have to say, for someone who has been there, you really dont have any idea what you are saying.

Al is not wrong in what he is saying, nor is anybody else. how can somethoing be wrong if it works for them????????????? everyone has to find their own way, and what is right for one may be wrong for the next, but the sharing of ideas is whats kept all the friends that have supported each other on here going.

you are entitled to offer your advice, and i'm sure your advice is respected by all, but please also respect back the fact that just because it worked for you it wont necessarily work for everyone else.

lets face it lewt, if you were the one that was so right, everyone would be marched off to aa, and no one would be here.

good on you all for your continued determination

I am an AA man through and through. I also respect anybody who gets sober in any way whatsoever. I think that this disagreement about what we have to do to get sober and to stay sober should be put into perspective. It has been mentioned that the AA success rate is 10%. I don't know if this is true or not as I have never seen records being kept in my time in AA. What I do know is that the vast majority of medical opinion throughout the world says that AA is by far the most successful way of stopping and staying stopped. The program of AA has proved so successful that dozens of other agencies in the battle against alcoholism are using it. Also there are many other problems that people have that are being assisted by a version of the 12 steps. I do not doubt that people can stay sober in various ways but I do believe that the majority need AA.

Brodev I haven't argued about how people should get sober, I really don't care. What I object to is the continual "there is only the AA way".

Perhaps I just need to chill and learn to ignore :)

Packard, it's my ball, I'll do what I piggin want ;)

If I have inadvertently suggested that you have, I appologise. I truly mean no critisism of anyone or anything.
It is certainly a sign of getting well not to rise to the bait.

For me, AA works in keeping me sober as you meet so many others in your situation. It`s really a mutual self-help group - I haven`t done the steps since leaving rehab and most members I know don`t do them either. All we care about is not drinking and trying to help each other. If having a good rant on this thread is your way of staying sober, then it works for you. I would still recommend trying AA to see if it helps, and, if not, keep looking for what works for you. But please do keep on looking.

i know aa works for my sister, but i sometime doubt her motives. She is hugely committed to the aa ethos. But then she will say i just dont want to be like that, he/she has lost everything. For me its fear that works as it is for her. This thread helps me because i identify with a lot people have to say. If it wasnt for this thread i would still be merrily drinking each nite refusing to believe i had a problem. But it is still fear for me, my drinking moods were becoming so unpredictable, i just didnt want to see it. If this thread helps me and aa helps my sister so be it, but the fact remains we all share something in common, we want to stop. Surely that is all that matters.

    Hey beer :)
I'm pleased with how I'm doing at the moment.
I'm starting to realise why I'm unhappy, and I'm making steps to become a happier person. Its all a bit scary at the moment, so I'm doing alot of hiding :)
Hope you are good, thinking of you.
