I have been thruthful with my doctor about the drinking, but she didn't really give it any time of day. I'm fighting with her to get any treatment at all hehe.
I've got to give up smoking, probably not the best time, but got to be done.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -

"as i know alcohol and drugs were just a spymtom of my illness"
Therefore alcohol was a symptom of being an alcoholic? ie you were an alcoholic before you started to abuse alcohol?
You don't think there was an underlying reason you drank?“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0 -

I have known a number of people who have decided that they have found the "root cause" of their drinking. They then went on to sort it out and having done that they naturally thought that they could drink again, only to discover to their horror that they couldn't with safety. Not all of them were able to stop again. I do not know whether I was predisposed to alcoholism or whether or not there was another cause. What I do know, however, is that once an alcoholic always an alcoholic.
As has been mentioned a number of times on this thread, one of the symptoms of this illness is to tell you that you are "ok now". This still happens even when the drinking has stopped, which only goes to prove to me that I still have the illness. In my case it comes into my mind that surely after all these years I would be "ok now". Also I was too imature then but I am a lot more mature and surely I would be "ok now"
I am not suggesting that this also applies to anyone in particular but it certainly applies to me.Something Really Interesting0 -

I've often wondered if alcholism is genetic, my father was a drinker, I wasn't even brought up by him, didn't meet him till I was in my 20's, my mum isn't a big drinker nor is my step father, so it was not something I was brought up with, any thoughts0
