  • I know what your both saying, but I'm struggling to write down what it is I feel.
Sometimes, I do have a problem - I know that. But right now, I feel fine, I'm not drinking and I feel like I'm alright. Suppose I feel like I'm not a real alcoholic cos I've not hit rock bottom. I doubt I'd be at all concerned if I hadn't have grown up with an alcoholic for a mother.
    Does that make sense?

we all have our own rock bottom, and we all have to hit it..

at least you do realise your on ya way there  ..

soooooooooooo you could get help before you hit it.... so when
you do hit it...... the landing might be softer ;)
Heaven wont let me in & Hell's too scared i'd take over

Thats what it feels like now, but when I'm sitting on the floor in the garden at 3pm totally drunk, I kinda feel like I have a problem. But I don't do that often, its like I'm a part-time alcoholic?

But I've not lost friends or family over it. When I work, it doesn't affect that. It doesn't really affect that much, I just go through spells of binge drinking. Usually its once a month, but if I'm down, its once or twice a week at most. Which isn't very much.

    !!!!!! !!!!!!!!

you dont have to loose friends / family/ or material possesions...
    to have a drink problem......

    look at me......

    32.. 2 kids... husband... house...2 dogs... a job....
    2 cars.... motorbike......loving parents.....
ive got more chance of loosing everything now.. SOBER.....
than i did have as a drunk.....

when you have had enough of alcohol kicking you into the ground
    then it will be time......
when you are on your knees....pleading for someone/thing to
help you.... then it will be time......
when you just want someone to knock on the door....
take your hand and lead you away to a safe place....
    then it is time
when you wish to be free from the hell you are living....
    then it is time

Then I would try and chat to your doctor first, there may be underlying causes and it could stop you going down the route you fear if you can understand what these are and get help with them ..it's a fine line between being dependant on alcohol and using it as a part-time crutch for other things

I have actually spoken to the doctor about this many times, I went on wednesday, but she just answered with her usual "you shouldn't drink you know". Shes reluctant to give me any more help, as last time she got me in to conselling, cbt and physcotherapy, but I didn't stick with any of them.
