any ideas from those of you who have managed to get drinking under control

    hi ...............

theres is no such thing as an alcoholic in control of alcohol thats why
we are alcoholics.. the alcohol controls us.. (and no im not saying your an alcoholic.. im using the word 'we' as a collective of people who have admitted to being)

i have accepted i have no control over alcohol....... thats halve of step one.... of the 12 step program..... i have also accepted that my life is unmanageable with or without alcohol if im in the drivin seat (thats my version of the second part to step one) ;)
Heaven wont let me in & Hell's too scared i'd take over
Alcoholics do it till they pass out :o:D :;)
THE MORE I NO THE LESS I UNDERSTAND :o

thanks for your reply al mac he really didn't like this woman at all i could go on and on about it ..but i would only be telling you what he told me which (although i don;t think my husband would intentionally lie) may be coloured for his justification ..i know about the panic attack one and the choice of tipple as i went into his first meeting with him ..he had asked me to as he isn't very good at meeting people and has suffered panic attacks before ....because of the outcome of the counselling he is point blank refusing any other help i've tried explaining that not everyone is like that and at aa they are just the same type of people that he is but he's not interested...last night he had 6 cans of super lager and a half bottle of vodka which seems to be a new vice for him as before he would make a bottle of vodka last a full year ..he's going through his third in as many weeks ...i am feeling useless and i have to admit my love for him is starting to die ..but as micheleen pointed out i can't help him just now and have to face the fact i may never be able to ...but it hurts ...thanks again

I was up to a litre a day:o Driving drunk, looking after the children drunk:o Just seemed to be able to get away with it somehow:confused:

Do you need to get drastic. Threaten to leave him or even leave him. Shop him to the police.

Can you go talk to his doctor on your own and get you some advice.

I think it is so hard from the OHs side. As a drunk you do have to make the decision yourself, even if you are forced.

One thing my counsellor did was get me to check out the units I was drinking. A weeks worth or more a day:eek: Fortunately my doctor thinks my internals are OK. But I am aware of others who still have tests:eek:
  • Good morning people and welcome to those new to this thread. As its Sunday morning we usually have a little community hymn singing, you will be spared any prayers but I would like to say that I think all who post on this thread are very brave and are in the thoughts of many people who may not post to say so.

I was at a wedding recently of a very good friend of mine who a few years ago had a bad health scare (not alcohol related) but the wedding was especially joyous because of this and the following hymn was sung with great gusto :)

One more step along the world I go
one more step along the world I go
from the old things to the new
keep me travelling along with you

And its from the old I travel to the new
keep me travelling along with you

Round the corners of the world I turn
more and more about the world I lean
all the new things that I see
you'll be looking at along with me

And its from the old I travel to the new
keep me travelling along with you

As I travel through the bad and good
keep me travelling the way I should
where I see no way to go
you'll be telling me the way I know

And its from the old I travel to the new
keep me travelling along with you

Give me courage when the world is rough
keep me loving though the world is tough
leap and sing in all I do
keep me travelling along with you

And its from the old I travel to the new
keep me travelling along with you

You are older than the world can be
you are younger than the life in me
    ever old and ever new
keep me travelling along with you

May your God (whoever it may be) go with you on this journey, it won't be easy but then life never is.

I went to the doc to ask to have it on my records, just in case. If Mrs Mac needed to get them in to back her up.

She has to put the children first, then her, then me.

Any signs of me going bad again, plans have been discussed. Everyone has places to go. This was suggested in case I get violent, I never did:o

These are just things you can talk to him about. That's assuming he's willing to talk.

Acceptance is the key thing, he has to, then he's going to need you to work through it with him. Assuming he doesn't loose you first:eek:

I do hope you can get through to him:cool:
