I don't think that atom splitting has yet made its way to the A level curriculum.

Not exactly marks to hide through fear of sounding boastful though.

Pretty average university entry marks tbph

Last night I was reading the latest Inspector Banks crime novel by Peter Robinson and found this little gem:

'DI Cabbot' said Gervaise. 'The Chief Constable is here because he was a friend of the victim's'

By the way, they were only talking about one victim!

Apostrophes are the one thing that can wind me up, guaranteed. There is a letting agency on the way to town which has a giant banner on the wall saying 'LANDLORD'S WANTED!' What, just one? I have to go past it every day as well, drives me mad! Also punctuation errors on shop signs, you think for something like that you'd get it spellchecked?
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

    text speak (Argghhh

I quite agree! I also hate the fake, 'gangsta/in the 'hood', type speak, which some posters seem to like. If I wanted to listen to Ali Gee, then I would watch Richard and Judy.:rotfl:

I put the word 'draws' into Google, of course to search for the correct grammatical use of the word, and the number 1 site that comes up on google is:

a furniture shop on ebay selling, you guessed it, mahogany draws. :rotfl:

I've just read one of the threads that made Blakespops' blood boil to THIS extent :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:  (something to do with Carling Cup tickets) and he/she seems to have taken offense at pretty much nothing.

Why do people use the American spelling of words instead of the correct English spelling

    Offence / not offense
    Defence / not defense
    Licence (noun) / Not license(verb)

I suppose that the fact that the Microsoft spell checker is American is the cause.

I find it really hard to read when people post things like 'DH said to DD1, don't do that to your sister (DD2), so then DD3 jumped to her defence, and to make it even worse, now my MIL and FIL are involved...bla bla bla'

I have never in all my life heard anyone call their husband their 'darling/dear husband' or dear/darling daughter' - yet when I read these posts that's what I say in my head! lol

Well if it makes you lot feel any better I work for an international engineering firm that does tens of billions of dollars worth of business every year and yet almost all of the manuals for their products have basic spelling and grammar mistakes that a 12yr old could spot.

I'm sorry for the demon I've become but you should be sorry for the angel you are not.
  • The first time I used this, I too accidentally posted something similar to one already on. I received abuse including swearing ( who swear in print! ) I complained but was told they couldn't trace the person posting even though i gave every single detail including their user name. A 5yr old could have tracked them down, so it appears any thing goes. I'm too intimidated to post again.
