Car and wife hit by another car!

bah! Received a letter today from our insurers that they are indeed denying liability.
Woman apologised several times for hitting our car and not seeing the car door open.
Oh well, let's see what happens, first time we've ever had to claim in the 20 years we've been driving

If the damage really is the £50 you posted, then making a claim off your own insurer is not a viable option. (Assuming your excess is £50 or more).0

2 kids, both in the back, rainy day. 1 don't climb over the passenger seat to get into the driver's seat.
Ideal world, yes she should have leaned over and strapped her in, but it was raining and meant 1 kid standing on the pavement waiting.
So you'd sooner cause an accident
, Sorry but watching the school run performance on our road I have little sympathy. The attitude of "I've got kids in the car" doesn't wash with me, it's not a licence to abandon common sense or break parking regs I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
lol, so to get into your car, you climb over the passenger seat to get to the driver's seat do you?
There are no parking 'regs' that say you must enter your vehicle by the kerbside.0 -

I didn't start the claim, they did. I offered for them to repair my car without involving the insurance, but they declined stating they wanted to go through the insurance.
My company will recover the costs of the repair + my excess from their insurance (hopefully!)0 -
They won't recover your excess for you.
Your excess is an "uninsured" item.
You have to get that back yourself (either on your own or with the help of your solicitor, or by using any "uninsured loss recovery" extra you have paid for on your insurance.) But to get it all back the fault must 100% with the other driver.
So making a claim off your own insurer for a £50 is a no go. (They won't pay you anything due to your excess)0 -
Can't remember what level of policy i have, but when i spoke with my solicitor yesterday, they said they will recover the excess for me.0

I really can't be bothered with putting my car into a garage and getting a hire car etc (the approved repairer is 30 miles away!). I don't mind doing the work myself, do i HAVE to put my car in for repairs?0

No but I wouldnt stand in the road in traffic with my most valued possesion in my arms:mad:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Presumably the distant "approved repairer" is if you claimed via your own insurance.
If you want the third party to pay for the repairs, (without using your own insurer), you should get a quote for the job, send it to them and ask them to pay, giving them a chance to inspect your car before the repairs are done.
If you are confident you will win the liability argument, and intend to claim directly off the third party, then you don't need to use the approved repairer. Just send them a quote from your chosen garage.0
