I have been quoted £108.70 for worldwide annual insurance by Cover My Travels but no mention was made of being unable to insure my wife who was in hospital and receiving treatment during the past 12 months. I checked again on the phone and was told that the procedure would not be covered if problems arose with it. As it is no longer there, there will not be a problem.

This is the cheapest by far and I will be booking through them!:D

Hi you over 65s with a pre-existing medical condition who are seeking travel insurance. I am with Insureango (https://www.insureandgo.com) who are brilliant. I am 68; I take medication to control my blood pressure. This has to be declared for screening but they accept you as long as you take no more that two types of medication for it. You have the option to pay a little extra as an excess waiver, so nothing to tip out for claims. I always have annual cover and they give you an extra discount each time for renewal, but it has to be renewed by phone. This year they saved me the bother by calling me. It's so easy to get it sorted...no cc charge either :o) I highly recommend this company which doesn't seem to appear in the scanning programs.

This year my renewal for Silver cover (see the website for details) plus excess waiver for excellent annual worldwide cover for up to 31 days per trip (which can be extended if necessary) is £100.03 marvellous :o) I found them four years ago through the Sunday paper travel section; look for the green arrow advert and give them a call. You won't be disappointed. I should be on commission for this!

My wife and i try to spend much of the winter in florida, Mainly on trailer parks. Will be 65 soon and longterm cover will become very difficult. whilste internet Surfing last year in the States came across a company called, g1g.com

They do worldwide cover short & longterm and for pre exsisting conditions.
But looks like you have to buy each part of policy seperatley.

They are bit more exspensive under 65 , but cheaper than I have seen here for over 65 longterm

this probably won't help many people, but DH and I took out an annual 'not the USA' policy last year. And of course this year we're going to the USA, with our sons, none of whom were on that policy.

I was delighted to discover that I could a) add the USA for 10 days for less than any 'just the USA for 10 days' policies were quoting and b) add our 16 yo for free!

I then got separate policies from elsewhere for the older two, who are technically adults so can't be added to our existing policy. Our existing insurer wanted over £100 to insure them, but because they are fit and healthy young men I got cover for about a quarter of that!
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • I have found wisemans insyrance very good for pre exising conditions . They have not charged us a premium. I went to the insurance company and it was going to be £150 with the code from wisemans we have annula world wide including USA no extra charge

I hope you don't need to claim from Columbus.

OH and I took out an annual policy with them and as he has recently been diagnosed with an incurable cancer we need to claim for the refund of the cost of flights to Spain, only £220, as we can no longer travel. Their claims people insisted we got a letter of confirmation of cancellation from Monarch, which cost us £10, and then told us that because of the excess and them not covering anything but the basic cost of the flight without all the extra charges that are put on, (i.e air passenger duty, fuel supplement, passenger service charge, extra leg room and baggage charges, etc) then it lowered our claim to £63 and they would not pay out. We are in dispute with them at the moment and hope to get them to look at our claim again as quite a few regulars on here seem to think these charges should not be excluded. What also galls is the fact that they must have known they would reject our claim yet still insisted on the letter from Monarch, a complete waste of £10.

If ever we, or even I, are in a position to need travel insurance again then we wont be considering Columbus and we would certainly double check what exactly is included and excluded in the event of a claim because what Columbus are saying is not made clear in their Ts & Cs.
  • In my family we have chrones and coeliac disease and Newton Lee have been quoted around £96 for full cover, annually, worldwide (we are planning a trip to the US as well as Europe) I was astonished as have had quoted upward of £250. Now I know we haven't got the most massive health problems, but they were very friendly and knowlegeable. Maybe they would be able to help you.
Can't remember their number but I found them on the internet via a recommendation form the Chrones society.
    Good luck
  • Has anyone any experience of long stay insurance for over 65's. We plan a six months trip to europe in winter and require cover for myself 66 and husband who is 70. I am fit but he has angina. We have previously had cover with the RAC (full cover for angina) for 320 pounds (cant find pound sign) for annual multi trip each trip limited to 90days but the max trip they do is only 120 days and we want 180.
