  • It was only yesterday that I was looking for deals for travel insurance for my mother who has pre-existing medical conditions. I found the most competitive deal with Liverpool and Victoria online - worked our more competitive than Saga.

If you are travelling to Europe there is a new product called EHICPlus which is really competitive there is no age limit and it covers pre-existing medical conditions. The policy is underwritten by Lloyds.

I have done a search of this thread, without success, has anyone found an insurance company which will cover either osteoporosis or possibly just osteoporotic for 10 days in the USA without costing as much as the flights? It's for DH, he's 50, and he hasn't broken any bones since he was 4 when a garage wall fell on him!

He has a shed load of other medical conditions as well, but that's the only one which I feel we need to have covered, the rest can probably be declared and ignored ...

Also, a supplementary, we need insurance for five of us, and the boys are absolutely straightforward, disgustingly healthy, but 16, 18 and 21, so I guess I'll need a completely separate policy at least for the eldest, can anyone think of a reason for NOT having cover with different companies if that works out more cost-effective?

    Some hours later ...

Following links from Martin's travel insurance article, I am getting sub £100 quotes for DH and I from both Karma and Medi-cover. DH is pleasantly surprised ...

I haven't given the links because if you use the links from Martin's article then the site benefits. Karma has come from a link on moneysupermarket. Had enough now, there are medical conditions out there I don't even want to think about! :rotfl:

    Hi

I have tried about 15 insurance companies most of which are refusing to cover my pre-existing condions. The others are extremely expensive. I have never had a problem getting insurance before for DVT's as it has always been well controlled and no new treatment but I now have lower back pain and I have just been seen by a consultant and he is sending me for a scan just to rule out any nerve impingment . I am happy to forgo cover on the back but really want to cover the DVT but with most of the companies it is cover all or none. Also the prices quoted for cover excluding my pre-existing conditions are still high when I comparet them to moneysupermarket. The problem is that if I cannot get reasonable cover then I am going to be forced to take out insurance excluding my conditons, does anyone know of a company which will include 1 and exclude another or alternatively if I take a policy through moneysupermarket not covering the conditions is it still possible to inform them of pre-existing conditions in order to ensure that if we had to make a claim for something completely unrelated that we would be covered for that.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Any advice would be appreciated

Hi. I have a trip planned to South Afrca and have been trying to find family insurance which will cater for my son. He has hydrocephalus, but also had respiratory problems, with an expected seizure, at birth. As the respiratory problems were over a year ago I originally though I would not need to declare them , but as he has seen pediatricans since I have discovered it is safer to declare them. What annoys me is that I have got quotes from a few companies telling all...only to find out later that although they would of sold me the policy, the policy would not of covered him as the respiratory problems were not listed. It seems that we are one of the cases where we don't really 'fit' into the question sets they go through. At the end I am going to take a policy through Medicover listing every condition he has had since birth. I have found that this will not cover cancellation due to pre-existing conditions which occur within 31 days for taking out the policy so my £300 + policy would not cover cancellation. So I have decided to exclude personal possessions and cancellation from the policy which brings it down to £190. I am then going to take out a cheap annual policy for £40 to cover our possessions and cancellation due to anything else. I asked if it was okay to have 2 policies and she said yes as long as I don't claim on both. Anyone know of any problems with this?

Another thing I would like to add...I discovered that you can take out a discounted policy with Club Direct via Moneysaving Expert...then call and add the pre-existing conditions. This will work out cheaper than calling initially...if they canc over your conditions. Club Direct is a sister company of Medici apparently and use the same screening (although I managed to get different results).

Karma was no good...I found them difficult to understand on the web as they seem to exclude any hospitalisations in the last year and even after 2 emails to them I am still unclear as to whether this is for declared conditions or not.

This process is so fustrating! It seems easy to buy a policy that will not pay out...and they (the people you speak to) seem oblivious to the fact that you might be a little upset when they tell you that you baby is too ill for them to insure!! If they could see him crawling around my feet and see the doctors happy faces when they review him perhaps they would think differently! I must say the person I spoke to at Club Direct was excellent even though she turned me down and told me my quote through Medici was not going to cover me!

    Sorry about the long ramble!
  • I have just got Annual Worldwide travel insurance for myself and my husband through www.laterlife.com Our medical problems are relatively minor but as long as you can answer no to all the questions on their online medical screening declaration they will give a quote by email. I had to do a telephone medical screening for my husband but the result was that there was no increased premium or excess in his case. Our premium for both of us Annual Worldwide including USA was £79 which I thought was pretty good.

They cover the 50 - 65 age range but might cover over that if you phone. Certainly worth a try.

I am currently covered by American Express for annual worldwide insurance. They gave me a renewal quote of £284.95. I tried the Liverpool Victoria and was quoted £447.09:eek: which included the online discount:rotfl:

  • Please note!! Cover My Travel will NOT cover anyone that has has surgery or investigations within the last 12 months! I had metal rods in my spine in November 07 and want to travel to Greece in Sept 08 - I am 47 and they will not cover me!
