centrino 2 ghz , 512+mb ram , dvdr , radeon 9700 128mb graphics , 6hr battery , 3 yr warranty and under a grand from a reputable dealer.
I dont want to cross post but if the mods want to move to wanna so be it , i thought it was relative seeing as how thats what i was after was the one in aldi originally.0 -
Richie147 did the Laptop recognise your network as soon as you turned the laptop on as it should do, or did you have to configure it somehow. Even my PDA recognised the network straight away. Looking forward to you response. I am going to reset it right back to the factory settings before I take it back to see if that does any good. >:(.0

Bought Netgear Router from PCW today as well, so went wire-free for the first time. Initially laptop didn't recognise network, but after fiddling with connection settings...suddenly connection established, more by luck than judgement!
All seems to be working perfectly (That's probably put the kis of death on it now!)0 -
Lucky so and so....I want one!!!0

Yeah, I also have this laptop/. The are great little machiens but they have a few problems...
The DVD-RW is useless. It takes a few times to read certain DVDs (especially Half Life 2)
The screen looks washed out from certain angles, not to mention the stuff they put on it marks the screen.
I've had two of these laptops now as the little PCMCIA ejections button (the little cards you put in the laptop) broke. Nothing major, but an annoyance...
The battery life IS NOT 6 hours, you can however safely get 4 hours out of it watching a DVD or some mild work without WIFI.
Gaming wise, its a good performer, one of teh best in its field however, it is a laptop. keeping this in mind, especialy as it was designed for low power (unlike for instance an A64 based machine) the games may have to be knocked down a few resolutions. But it will happily play all the latest games.
The hard drive is noticable slow (in comparison to my main computer, however that is a top spec machine), but it isn't bad once you're actually doing what you want. (ie, the game has loaded)
For me, it has never crashed. However I have a friend who has teh same laptop and its always crashing. But note, I did reinstall the operating system teh second I got it.
As for the preinstall suite, its very comprehensive almost everything you could need. Very well done for the price.0 -
Well I finally managed to get the wireless side of things to work ;D. Put on the program for my MP3 player and loaded zone alarm and it started to crash again this time right at the start up stage. I thought that zone alarm and norton anti virus might be conflicting but I couldnt even get far enough in to remove Norton. So I have finally given up with it and taken it back. By the way it didnt come loaded with SP2 as all computers should these days. So very dissappointed as it was a good spec for the price. I dont think myself that you should have to reload the operating system as soon as you buy a computer to get it to work correctly. But never mind back to the drawing board. Good luck with all those who have a good one.0

Finally got one!! Hurray!
So far so good. It has been installing programmes and stuff and no crashes.
Now installing SP2 which is taking absolutely ages! The only thing I don't like about the laptop is the 'anti-scratch' layer on top (plastic, rubber layer). It's already looks scratched! But I don't really care so well chuffed so far.
Tiggercat: Why don't you try another one and see. I just think you may have been unlucky and got a duffed one.0 -

My daughter bought one yesterday. I spent a few hours loading updates and applications and generally 'setting it up'; and she watched a DVD on it last night. It hasn't so much as blinked (touch wood).digital0 -

I've not got one so don't take this as Gospel but I'm sure I read on another forum a few months ago when these laptops first came out that the anti-scratch layer is actually removable and not meant to stay on ( a bit like the plastic on a mobile phone screen when you first buy it). Does it not say anything in the instructions?0
