Morning all.. *yawn*
When / how do you bring in a routine? Rhys is 12wks old (tomorrow) but call it 6wks for decent development and proper waking/eating/sleeping. At the minute, he tends to wake/eat/sleep every 2-3 hours from 7am to 3pm, then he's awake for a few hours before falling asleep for 2-3 hours with OH, then wide awake from 9pm to about 1am and won't go down to sleep properly until 3am. The faffing about in the early hours is really getting to me nowI know he needs to sleep to grow but I need sleep to stay sane!
Do I just keep him awake by playing etc for hours at a time in the morning and afternoon to stretch his awake times in the hope he'll be tired out at night? What sort of times does everyone else stick to?
The fleecy sleepsuit has just arrived (thanks again Sami!). I don't think he's cold at night but will try him in it tonight and see what happens
I BF him at half seven and half nine and he slept soundly inbetween, then took my chance and lifted him out his crib as soon as he cried at half ten to give him a bottle to get his meds into him in time (well, some were 4hrs late!) and he's still off now. Goes down well enough after a feed in the day but not at night.
Just like me and OH really, I suppose. We're night owls.. just not 3am ones!
Not much luck at choosing our routines here either Elle, but I think the basic idea is, look for patterns in his natural tendencies, and build around them - work on the theory of not awake for more than x time before needing a nap even if it's not obvious, needing a feed every y time, and otherwise try to associate the same things with each step every time. So each time you think he needs a nap, do the same things whether it's BF or sing a lullabye or pat his butt for a few minutes, or - etc.
I am sure that was not very helpful but as I say, the routines we have, came accidentally rather than with planning! So I am not much of a guide
One of the things that helps as newborns grow up just a leetle bit, is that they start identifying night and day a bit better...0 -
MM (((((Hugs))))) and well done jas on her sleeping
CS hope your Lo is feeling better today
I'm a mad DD fan.
Elle I've been very strict with my routine and it really is a god send now as she is soooo good at bedtime. Once cbeebies bedtime hour comes on we start winding down, just reading books not really noisy toys. She has her milk, then into bath where she has a yoghurt. Out bath daday carries her through to her room. I sing the same 2 songs to her and she knows that after the last song she gives me a kiss I give her one then off into bed, I tuck her in then say goodnight and close the door, then yeeha it's mummy time!!!
Ok when she was younger it was slightly different, I fed her then sang the songs, I kissed her said goodnight then tucked her in. She was in her own room or an early age. HTH
As for waking in the night I'm sure you do the usual no lights on, no eye contact no chatting, it feels horrible but it really does work. I always found el was up bum changed fed then back down very quickly. then there came a point I didn't change her bum.Everyone is entitled to their opinionEllie 25/12/070 -
Afternoon all... I spoke too soon last night. Izzy woke up again after about 20 mins and I couldn't settle her again without feeding her, as she was hungry... then she woke up again at 4:40 and I didn't get her down again till almost 7am, and that was only for 40 mins. I'm exhausted!
I keep reading that babies are meant to be able to sleep through by now - no-one told this one
Of course she is wide awake, and DH is in the pub, so no sleep for me just at the moment, but I'm letting her roll around on the floor with [strike]her toys[/strike] the remote control (she has just put on bbc news for me!) and tire herself out, so maybe we will nap in a bit. If not we are getting in my parents car after tea and driving to staffordshire, so i'm sure we will both be out for the count! Any my parents wake up early, so if I can't get her settled again tomorrow morning maybe they will take her out for a walk for me while I sleep. I can dream can't I?Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

Goodness me its quiet today!
I only got out of bed at 1pm today  I was awake from about 11am but as it was just Edgar and I we just chilled out with the tv and played peek a boo until Daddy came homei'm all mixed up now though, nothing like breakfast at 2pm to mix you up!
Ed did fantastically last night, ruined my plans to express tho, he 'emptied' one side at MILs then the other side at home and slept from 11/12ish ( i wasn't keeping note) until 6am :T I didn't realise how long he'd slept until I woke up with a chest like barbie!
Chris slept well at IL's he woke at 2ish but didn't get up then was up at 5:30am, I think it was the sun that woke him and that time isn't too bad as FIL is an early riser and its better than when he takes the mick at my parents - he usually gets up at 3am to kick my mum out of bed so he can get in with my dad (told you my mum is soft, I send him packing!)

Elle neither of mine have been ones to want to play at night so no personal exp but I'd agree with scruffy, only essential contact at night and keep lights low.
I try to avoid just feeding then putting them down in the day so they know its ok to play in the light and sleep more at night so I try to play for as long as he's happy around 10/11am and again 2/3pm the playing tires him out too so he sleeps while I make lunch at tea (thats why I chose those times)
glad you like the sleepsuit
I ordered my stuff from amazon last night, I was getting the lazy ted seat frame and I went for the taggies rattle in the end because Ed doesn't have much that isn't handed down from Chris, I also got the pram cup holder so Tine I'll measure how big the clip will go when it arrives0 -

Oh, I'm eBay selling.. Trying so hard not to click Buy and start browsing!
For some reason we have 22 cupboard door hinges leftover from fitting the kitchen - probably used less than that! Turns out, they're swanky ones worth about £50 so have put them on eBay.
Other than that I've cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, done a few loads of washing and sorted the ironing basket. Can you tell OH is home and has taken charge of Rhys for a few hours?
More sorting to do.. trying to find the motivation to list more on eBay0 -
