I will need to do an access course at college first before i get on to the uni course, I have a-levels but the grades weren't good and it was 7years ago so dont even know if they count anymore?

Thank u! good luck with it, i think im being stupid worrying about my age, i mean i'l still have over 30years of working life left in me (hopefully!!) Are you doing your degree full time or part time? Im thinking of doin the access course part time (over 2years) then degree full time, x

Ah right - unfortunately you get a lot less 'help' financially at college. I am not sure of the exact help you can apply for but there isn't much!
As a mature student (over 21yrs) the University entry requirements are less strict, so it might be worth your while phoning the admissions tutors for the uni's you are looking at and asking if they would accept you with what you have.

I have been studying part time for 4yrs and have 2yrs left p/t until I complete my degree...I am with the Open University as they are very flexible and have NO entry requirements...which is good for me as I left school in the 3rd year of secondary and didn't really attend much before that anyway:o I did go to night school while I was working full time to get my GCSE maths and english though, as these are mandatory to be accepted onto a PGCE...if you are wanting primary you must also have GCSE science:)

Just opened the post and I've got vouchers from the Boots Parenting club, including £5 off when you spend £15. There's the usual £1 off Pampers New Baby, then 10% off mini mode clothing, 10% off when you spend £60 online, 20% of some Boots bottles or steriliser and 50p off anything Fairy Non-Bio :)

before you speak to colleges check with uni's, I think your A-levels still count and the PGCE entry requirements aren't as high as they used to be so you may be able to go straight for the uni course :)
right I'm off to asda seeing as Ed didn't let me order on line yesterday

Definitely phone them though, as what it states on their websites is quite generic and they always take into account personal circumstance.

What course are you looking at doing?

Jakesmummy do you already have a degree? if not you cannot go straight to PGCE, you need a degree first, so you might as well just do a teaching degree.

Your A levels will still count but as it is a few years since you studied you will be recommended to do an access course as you said. As Redmel says you need Maths English and Science GCSE's at grade C or above, there used to be a rule where you didn't need them if you were born before 1982 but i think they scrapped it, I can check on that if its relevant for you.

Yeah im gonna write a list of all the driveable unis n give them a call, am i right in thinking that pgce is what you do after a degree? so i could do a degree in anything then do that? I was actually looking at the teacher training degrees but if its going to be easier to do it another way i will.

Yes a PGCE is the year that you do after you get your degree, but you do need to do a degree that is relevant to the national curriculum, so maths/science/english....or a straight teaching degree (Bed) Bachelor of education, I think it is called, would do it. As Primary PGCE places are quite competitive it is better to one of the core subjects than something in, say, media....
