Yesterday we had a beach day, was planning on not spending much but had to get some spades (where have they gone over the winter all I could find at home were rakes), and treated kids to an icecream, all in all £8.50 including parking for the day and great fun had by all.

Supposed to be going for a picnic in the park with some other mums this afternoon but the ground is gonna be wet and not sure if there will be more showers so I'll have to find out if everyone is still up for it.

Housework this morning - so boring but still needs to be done and the kids are entertaining themselves for a change, although that probably means I'll need to tidy their room later.

OH is working tomorrow but should be home by2pm latest, cant decide if we should go for a bike ride tomorrow or swimming. The swimming pool do family swims for £5 and I can only take the kids when he is there too because of their young age. Probably swimming but if its nice might do bike ride instead oh i still dont know.

I'm working sunday so its OH problem to entertain them!

    I haven't read the thread, sorry :o

We got some paper, and made it into squares, then looked up instructions online for how to make snowflakes, paper hats and paper planes. My 13 year old enjoyed it as much as my 3 year old (he's clumsy and has never really learned how to use scissors etc. so he enjoys learning, he was really chuffed to be able to learn how to make a paper plane, because he says he's the only kid in school who can't do it).

3 year old loves the snowflakes and is very proud :D

Yesterday we were on a walk in the woods, and an organised activity was gluing various bits of fern, pinecones, leaves etc. onto paper - the 3 year old loved it. I thought that another time we could bring the leaves etc. home with us and do some sticking at home :)

Tomorrow we're going to try planting - the carrot seeds and the beetroot both say they can still be planted in july, and so does the lettuce.

Rain, rain, rain - yep I think that's probably the worst thing in schools hols! I always found that there was a certain amount "newness" about painting, colouring, cooking making paper planes, going to the library etc - because we seemed to get so little time in term-time to do those things when my sons were at school!
These days I suppose we're all looking for free (or nearly free) activities and this thread is going to give us plenty of ideas - great idea OP!
For some more inspiration have a look HERE.

We have spent the morning chalking the back yard, every brick is a different colour lol.

What an excellent idea! We will chalk a hopscotch grid on the path in the front garden. I didn't think of the bricks - that will takes ages :rotfl:

My 13 year old has seen HP, youngest is 3 so he won't be going. Most of the 3 and 4 year olds we've spoken to recently (since the new HP release) have already seen 1 and 2, so perhaps my almost-4 will be watching those soon, not sure. We watched snow white today, an ancient tap on the VHS that i have in my bedroom :)

The reading challenge is about dragons. Libraries everywhere will be joining in, just ask your local.

Ours is doing a themed craft session for 3-7 year olds, and every week there's a themed story time. We were walking on cannock chase yesterday and saw details of what cannock library are doing, and it was different, including craft sessions for under 5's etc.

Children could just do the challenge though. My 13 year old got really excited about the idea of going to the library, he hasn't been for a few years. He gets books bought for christmas, birthdays etc. and has at least 20 books in his room that he still hasn't read, but the library is exciting :)

Travelodge have some £29 rooms at the moment. We're going to butlins skegness on 4th sept (kids not at school until 8th and 9th) and we managed to get a travelodge room on the way for the thursday night, so we'll be able to get to butlins early on the friday and make the most of it :)

I got a cheap railcard so we'll be going for day trips to the seaside, rhyl perhaps.

We went to see Race to Witch Mountain yesterday - 'Kids am' then dd spent the afternoon playing with friends.

Today we have been to Bristol zoo - 'free' as we are members, and got very wet but we had a great time.

I have spent £25 just on food and drink though!!!:eek::eek: That was purely lack of planning, because I didn't feel too well yesterday and wasn't sure we'd be going, and it won't be happening again! What a waste! And it was only simple food too - nothing special!

I'm going to get some lunch box type food in this week and freeze it so we aren't caught out like that again. That is half a week grocery shop for us (and that includes toiletries/dog/cat/household items...) Mad!

Tomorrow we are at home and Tuesday dd goes for her Brownie pack holiday for two nights. I may pinch Jellyhead's idea of making paper things for tomorrow. I fancy reminding myself how to make a tree! :D

Then Saturday we are going away for a few days - very cheap as my mum and dad have a caravan and have kindly allowed us to use it. :D

I can't believe we are one week in already! Are all your children off for 7 weeks as well this time, or is that just here?
