Confused over Easyjet baggage allowance ...

  • Hello,
I agree with the above - last April my wife and I flew with one checked bag (40kg allowance, but bag weighed around 25Kg, no problemo).

But we're going away shortly and the terms seem to have changed as our booking says '1 checked bag ... total weight 20kg', and the EJ website says
"Passengers on the same booking who have **each** paid the fee for an item of baggage may aggregate their weight allowances and distribute the weight allowances across their combined hold baggage. This is subject to a maximum acceptable weight for each single piece of checked-in hold baggage of 32kg. Baggage which exceeds this weight will not be accepted for carriage."
    (my **)
Think I'll email EJ and check

    My email to EasyJet (yesterday):
Last year when my wife and I flew EJ to Sardinia we understood our [joint] allowance was 40Kg but had one checked bag of around 25kg (less than the 32kg maximum).
Has this policy changed? We have again checked in the one bag but it seems we have just one lot of 20kg allowance.

    Their reply (today)
I would like to confirm that our baggage policy has changed on 14 October 2010. At this moment, if you book 1 suitcase between 2 passengers, the maximum total allowable weight per sector is 20 kg.
  • royal_chris - I know it is some time since you posted but thanks for the info above. Was just asking the same question myself regarding 2 x travellers and now happy that the combined weight limit is 20Kg as indicated when booking.

When you state "combined weight" this is confusing........it's 20 kg per paid for hold luggage,(1 piece),two paid for eg a couple take a suitcase each and pay for a suitcase each, its 40 kilos in total
    Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!

Like many others I'm unsure of the Easyjet charges/allowance with respect to taking sports equipment. We normally fly to Spain with hand luggage only, but this time want to take a set of golf clubs but no other hold luggage. When you go to the Easyjet manage your bookings page the ' add golf clubs ' box is at the bottom, it looks like you can fill the box in without adding suitcases which is at the top of the page. Has anyone done this or knows if its possible? By the sound of some previous posts,it may well depend on the Easyjet check-in staff as to how well they know the T&C. Thanks
  • Hi, I flew to Geneva with my partner in March, with 1 checked in suitcase and 1 snowboard (paid for sports luggage).

You'd be foolish to think (like i did) that you are entitled:

    - 20 kgs for suitcase
    - 32 kgs for Sports bag

What Easyjet have told me (if only booking 1 suitcase + 1 sportsbag) is that you are entitled a maximum of 32kgs, regardless of the number of passengers.

There seems however to be a way around this:

    Book separate tickets!

    If i had done so:

    - my partner would have been allowed her 20 kgs for suitcase
    - i would have been entitled 32kgs for my sports bag

So as i understand it, booking separately gives you an extra 20kgs allowance (52kgs instead of 32)!...
