Confused over Easyjet baggage allowance ...

1 bag, weighing 32kg = £18 per bag = £18 = 56p per kilo
No. 1 bag @ £18, max weight 20kg (not 32kg).
If you want that 1 bag to weight 32kg, you have to pay £18 + 12kgs of excess. So 12 x £10 = £120 x 2 (return journey) = £240. + £18 = £258 to take one bag weighing 32kg.

Go to the Easyjet questions and answers page. Ask the question "What is my hold luggage allowance" and the answer is spelt out in graphic form.
Two people can pool their allowances in one bag. However due to health and safety regs. one bag may not weigh more than 32kgs so 8kgs of two peoples' allowance would be effectively wasted. You will not be charged for the additional 12 kgms in the bag because it is part of the second persons allowance. Easyjet has confirmed this to me in writing and their own site confirms this.0 -

Yes, if the second person also pays for a bag (so they pay £36 between them). If the second person doesn't pay for a bag, and only the first person pays for a bag @ £18 (return journey), excess fees apply.0 -

Jammin - the issue is not at all clear from Easyjet's website, so I can see the confusion. But basically, Easyjet distinguish between the 'weight per booking' allowance and the 'bags per booking' fee, which is classed as an 'optional extra'.
The weight per booking is worked out at number of people on the booking multiplied by 20kg. 1 person = 20kg, 2 people =40kg
Any one booking, as a whole, can opt to check in any number of bags in which to hold that total weight, as long as no one bag exceeds 32kg and as long as the total combined weight of all the bags does not exceed the total weight allowance for the booking as a whole.
The 32kg is nothing to do with the weight per booking allowance, but is simply an absolute limit imposed by legislation, or some kind of airport or airline policy, about what weight a baggage handler can lift. If this policy changed, then the limit might be 28kg, or 52kg or whatever. In other words, the 32kg has nothing (not directly anyway) to do with Easyjet's baggage allowances or bag charges.0 -

jammin - you're right if there is only one of you travelling. Your weight allowance is only 20kg, so you can't exceed that without paying the fees you stated.
But it's the fact that you can share your weight allowances across bags when more than one of you is travelling that makes the difference.0 -

Wrong. Can you not read? I've posted a response from Easyjet on the previous page of this thread. 2 people travelling on ONE booking paying £18 for ONE bag, are entitled to take THIRTY TWO kg of luggage in that ONE bag.
There response was:
Dear Mrs Babyfruitella
Thank you for contacting us.
Yes I can confirm that for two passengers sharing one piece of baggage you are permitted to take 32kg without incurring any extra costs above the £18 you have already paid.
I do hope I have been able to answer your question fully.
To update your query please reply to this emal and we will be happy to assist you further.
Yours Sincerely

hi all - I can also confirm this. me and partner travel frequently with easy jet. we both book together but buy one bag = 32 kgs. If you book seperately, one at a time, then it becomes 20kgs.0

Yes - if you book together, and pay for one bag you can put 32kg in one bag. If you book separately, and if only one of you opts to pay for a bag, that one person will get to put 20kg in the bag, and the other person will get nothing. If you book separately and you both pay for a bag, you will get to put 20kg in each bag.0 -
Hi!!
Can you take 1 piece of hand luggage PLUS a small handbag? Or not?
