Tesco Loophole on Aftershave and Perfume

Why will Tesco pull the offer just because Martin used it in his weekly e-mail? I don't get it.
And why don't you lot want other people to know about it?1carminestocky wrote: »Because many paidtoshop regulars believe all Tesco deals are exclusively for their benefit?
Not at all. If you actually READ my earlier post I explain that I have no axe to grind with contributing MSE/PTS/UkHotDeals members, the problem is (getting repetitive but the people above clearly are more intent on being provocative than reading what I said) when it is put out in an email and sent to thousands of people it raises awareness to extreme levels. It is also then in an easy to forward/read format and I have absolutely no doubt some minions at Tesco would be forwarding them to HQ for brownie points.
Why would they pull it early? Well you tell me, but they did with the Cava and they did with the olive spread, both of which were plugged in last weeks email and yet had been mentioned on here/pts/ukhotdeals previous to that!
These are great offers which give us a great return, hence the big 'loophole' banner Martin loves so much. Incorrect though as these are not by definition 'loopholes'!! However raising awareness to such massive levels brings it to Tesco's HQ attention in big bright lights, and what was passed off by a few marketting people then gets analysed by far bigger and more important people, and action is taken to cut them out.
As I say, I have no truck with anyone on forums reporting and taking advantage, whether it be PTS or MSE, and I said this in the earlier post so I suggest in future you READ the whole thread before posting your incorrect assumptions.0 -
My Tesco didn't pull the wine offer that was massively pushed a couple of weeks ago, just because it was on MSE.
All they did was leave the shelf space completely empty until the offer expired. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
I don't know if Tesco have made urgent price changes but I just visited Tesco Kingston Park this evening (10pm) to try and take advantage of this, and all their fragrances were much more expensive than the prices quoted in the MSE article. For example I bought 3 x Oxygene Lanvin which was £14.50 per box. All the other fragrances were a good £5 more expensive too. Kingston park is the largest supermarket in the UK, so it's not like I was buying them from a Tesco minimart or anything. I was under the misapprehension that supermarket pricing in chains of big stores was quite homogeneous - it makes me wonder how Tesco's prices vary across the UK and how much we are being ripped off for in Newcastle?!
So, I exchanged £20 of clubcard points for £40 in fragrance vouchers, then used those to purchase 3 x Oxygene Lanvin (£40 vouchers + £3.50 cash). For this I received £15.43 back in clubcard points, making the fragrances cost £2.69 each. Hopefully I can sell them for more than that on eBay, though the checkout guy looked at them with some disdain when he scanned them, and given the wide variation in prices one has to wonder what they're really worth.
Hopefully I will break even but I really don't think this should have been headlined in the email as the “Biggest ever Tesco loophole” because I've made use of much better Tesco deals from MSE before.
All in all, hardly worth the trip.0 -
The cava WAS pulled last week. It was supposed to run until yesterday (21st). Yes they reduced it to £5.49 (and for one day it still had 300 points on it
) but the points were axed several days early.
Re the above post, the £8 Oxygene is the Homme one, the ladies is £14.50. And to correct several people, Oxygene Homme is an eau de toilette for men, not an aftershave.
Oh and I believe the 'biggest ever' "loophole" as Martin loves calling it.... was the beef in gravy promotion. Also the Johnsons talc gave more points for less spend, although admittedly there wasn't double-up with that.0 -
Ah ok, I realise now the Lanvin Oxygen I bought was the ladies version
Just shows what I know about perfume! Silly bisexual perfumes :P
