Spending 68% of my salary on rent!! :( How can i get it lower??

Aloha, yeah i have looked at going for a cheaper place..
(Unfortunately i cant go very far away for certain personal reasons that i cant disclose on an internet forum)
But also i cant go too far from here due to work, family and friends.
And even if i did look to move the only options would be-
*Cheapest rent for an old broken down smelly room in a shared house anywhere within 6miles radius of here will be MINIMUM £450p/m.
And you will severely struggle to find anywhere like that though due to this being North East Surrey.
*Move over 15miles anywhere in a South-Western direction, and id endup in the real countryside area of Surrey around Guildford, where not only will prices be nearly the same, but the travel cost of getting to work will hike up over £10 extra per day.
Since every trainstation you go past costs you roughly £1.50.
Plus you will have severely limited services and access in getting to SW london where i work, and especially when i work very odd hours through nights lots getting back at at 5am to those places just wouldnt be physically possible.
*Move over 10miles in NorthEast direction and id endup in SW london,
where id save a few quid per day on travel,
but would still have nearly as expensive living costs due to it being in the London borders, and the areas id be moving too would be alot less nice than here for barely any cheaper rent.
To actually be able to get a cheaper rent (£150+ lower per month) id have to move over 30miles South/West of where i live now,
and would endup in the countryside/motorways area between the south coast and guildford.
move to Hounslow or Tolworth I'm sure these would be much cheaper. And stop drinking like 12 pints a week0 -
Since im actually still going to be being nice and saying that even though your starting offer for the other flat is £595, so they could get you down to the £550 level,
im willing to pay you the full aksing price of £595, plus with me you dont have to pay the £100s of quid extra in estate agents fees or have teh property empty at all.
I never knew rentals were 'starting offers'
Your wording is confusing, you're saying staying in the flat and having a lower rent is saving him money, how?
Have you any saving? You realise that you usually don't get your deposit back until you've moved out so after you've paid a deposit & rent for a new place.
I keep thinking your male so you CAN get cheaper than £8 for a haircut in London but then you mention Salon0 -
By 'stupid' I wasn't referring to getting into debt, reckless spending or refusing to cut back on luxuries to make ends meet. I meant the OP's disregard for right and wrong. It's wrong to not pay tax, wrong to illegally download films and it's definitely wrong to boast about it on the internet if you're hoping to get into the Police Force.Yes, they can. See my post concerning a friend who is up to their neck in debt but feels entitled to a high standard of living. There is a stop-gap in the mind that means some people feel they deserve a certain lifestyle - their warped values are so strong, they are immune to criticism and routinely ignore the advice they seek.

When its clear that they cannot elicit the sympathy they are due, they get defiant. In the case of this thread, the OP (who by many standards is actually quite vulnerable) has ended up by showing scorn. The average age of a new police recruit is 27 years which gives him ample time to try and repair their credit record and interpersonal skills.
In the case of my friend who has squandered her money and is a scrounger, her response to my urging her to live within her means and seek professional debt advice, was to wilfully misinterpet the conversation and inform others that I ended our friendship because she's poor. Some people just thrive on sympathy and do their best to present themselves as a victim.
It's not for me to judge someone's financial situation, I'm not squeaky clean myself. I meant all the other stuff he's harping on about, that you'd surely keep to yourself if you had hopes of working for the Police. In fact, I think anyone who was fiddling tax would keep it to themselves if they wanted to get away with it!

Can't we let this horror of a thread die a death?!0

He has said that he does not want to move to a worse area than Addlestone, but he doesn't have to. There are loads of studio flats to rent in the nicer areas of Surrey and SW London for £500 pcm.0 -

With apologies to superfran_uk, I can't resist reviving this thread.
The OP now plans to deal with his low income, credit card debt, ct/hb overpayment and CT arrears (caused by assuming his landlord would be paying it) by subletting his studio flat without the consent of his landlord to a HB claimant who will kip on a camp-bed while he still lives there.

He's nothing if not imaginative in his approach to budgeting and money management.0
