Just read the old thread and am inclined to agree with you GrammarGirl. The image that this person is trying to portray (terrible with money, drinks to excess, skewed view of morals and living way beyond their means whilst expecting someone else to pick up the tab, lying about income to a panel of complete strangers on the internet...) is just imcompatable with the type of person who would be seriously considering a career in law enforcement.
You have to be cleaner than clean, anyone who had looked into this would know, there's a huge financial assessment form with the original application pack !!!!!!!
Christ - and looking through the older threads posted by one 'beta89', there is no WAY this fictional person would pass even the most basic financial vetting with the number of defaults they have. Sorry OP, keep dreaming! And btw working in CCTV is not a stepping stone to the police force!0 -
Aside from the expense, you're drinking rather more than is recommended. Cutting back would be healthier, as well as saving you money. Maybe try to find other ways to relax? Everything from sport/exercise to a small beer with colleagues after work (instead of what sounds like a few large whiskies).0

To be fair on the OP, he is young and a lot of what you guys expect him to know may come with life experience and isn't necessarily obvious to all.
FWIW, if your main aim is to have more money each month and maintain your standard of living, then may I suggest getting another job? Perhaps in the same field you are already in but with more stable hours? Perhaps you could sell some stuff on ebay?
Please do let us know the outcome with your landlord as well.
Thanks

Yes, they can. See my post concerning a friend who is up to their neck in debt but feels entitled to a high standard of living. There is a stop-gap in the mind that means some people feel they deserve a certain lifestyle - their warped values are so strong, they are immune to criticism and routinely ignore the advice they seek.

When its clear that they cannot elicit the sympathy they are due, they get defiant. In the case of this thread, the OP (who by many standards is actually quite vulnerable) has ended up by showing scorn. The average age of a new police recruit is 27 years which gives him ample time to try and repair their credit record and interpersonal skills.
In the case of my friend who has squandered her money and is a scrounger, her response to my urging her to live within her means and seek professional debt advice, was to wilfully misinterpet the conversation and inform others that I ended our friendship because she's poor. Some people just thrive on sympathy and do their best to present themselves as a victim.0 -

And malware/adware (often a feature on sites offering copyright-infringing material) can download 'naughty' material without the user's knowledge. Some people have ended up in trouble due to honest lack of technical know-how. Again, not sure that 'I have know idea how those got there' would look great for a want-to-be police officer :rotfl:0 -
After reading this thread and others in different forums and under various user names the OP has posted under he appears to be a real life Walter Mitty living in a make believe and fantasy world.
He contradicts himself continuously and must think that people are stupid if he thinks they really take what he posts seriously.0 -
Granted, Weybridge is an expensive area, but Addlestone is rightfully much cheaper.
There are 8 studio flats on the Findaproperty website in Addlestone with an asking price of under £600 per month, and I am sure a bit of haggling will knock a few % off that. There is an OK looking one for £525 which could probably be had for under £500. There are also several in Weybridge itself for less than £600.
You don't say wherabouts in SW London that you work, but there are sub-£600 per month studio flats to rent in areas much nicer than Addlestone (e.g Kingston, Surbiton, Sutton and even Wimbledon). If you can rent within walking distance of work, you will save the train fare as well.0 -

You scammed on tax for three years, whilst a student and joe public subsidised you.
Now you are living beyond your means and want the landlord to subsidise your lifestyle.
Get real, get a proper job and live within your means and stop whinging on internet forum
Arent you a judgemental little creature!
He's come on here to ask for advice on how to decrease his spending.0 -
So lets get this right...
You've traded crude oil and done very well out of it
Your salary is now 18k a year (and 1/5th of what you were earning)
You traded on ebay and made £300 a month
Why are you renting?
If I was making 90K a year I wouldn't pay somebody elses mortgage. Of course, you may be fibbing in what you made, or you may have just blown the lot on hair gel0
