Am i entitled to compensation from Tesco ?

If the OP had changed the title of this thread to "Am I entitled to a reimbursement of my travel expenses from Tesco" I don't think so many people would have had a problem with that. It's a lesson learnt I suppose....if you don't want the sort of replies that have been posted on here, don't ask for compensation when all you really want is a reimbursement.0

Absolutely spot on.
The title did mention compensation - that word that seems to get so many people steamed up.
The OP has said that she told Tesco that she would have to take a taxi to return the item and was told that she would have to write in and include the taxi receipt to request reimbursement.
Not being party to the conversation bewtween the OP& Tesco, this sounds to me like they implied that they would reimburse the fare.
However, if Tesco didn't imply this, I personally would at that point have reconsidered whether it would be worth actually going to so much trouble and expense to return the item.
If the OP was told she would get the taxi fare reimbursed, I would say she's not being unreasonable to expect that and the £5 voucher is not enough.
Reimbursement not compensation.0 -

Same thing.
Peoples perception of the word compensation is often that it is to gain advantage or profit when actually it's just to put you in the same position you were before another parties negligance disadvantaged you. More here

The link you posted just takes you to my post above. I'm sure that wasn't your intention, I'll check out the proper link if you'll post it again.
Whilst not wishing to go off topic or create further disagreement, I have to say that I don't agree with you that reimbursment and compensation are the same thing.
Reimbursment is to repay a person for expenses incurred by them. Such as you paying for a hotel on a business-related trip, your company will reimburse the cost you have incurred. They do not compensate you.
Compensation is something, such as money, given or received as payment or reparation, as for a service or loss.
IMHO, those scummy ambulance-chasing companies have sullied the meaning of compensation.0 -

Reimbersment/compensation - it's semantics in this thread. I suppose to be technically correct reimbursment is to repay a person for intended expenses such as company expenses.
When there is no choice and the expenses are incurred to rectify something that has gone wrong the repayment of those expenses is compensatory. So the payment the OP seeks is compensatory because it is to fix the thing that went wrong (the unplanned taxi + meal).0 -
What you need to do is write back to Tesco's and mention the fact that you brought the contamination to their attention as obviously you thought it maybe a case of public safety. You could add that the person you spoke to at wherever (day\date\time of who you spoke too and where they said they were when you called) as he insisted you bring the contaminant in so urgently.
It is ropey CS though, isn't it.
The OP should have taken it to the council, environmental health;)
I had some mushroom bought in Asda on Saturday afternoon, growing white fur on Sunday morning:eek:
I rang the store & they told me to bring the packaging & ref number into the store to recieve a refund.
I emailed their complaint office as I feel they should have sent me a refund, as a CS gesture, they didn't even bother to respond:rolleyes:
Mislaid the ref number, so never got my refund.0 -

I don't understand, you said they would give you a refund, but you didn't get one because you mislaid the ref number. So why did you email them because you feel they should send you a refund?0 -

Because I felt telling me to return (at my time & expense) was ropey enough (its at least 9 miles away) & I felt they should have sent it to me via post (in voucher or cheque).
Thats what I said in the email, that they didn't bother responding to.0
