The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 4

Hi all,
I'm Caz, 36 years old. I live with my OH and our 2 cats. I really need to cut down my alcohol intake, not least because of the cost, but I am starting to worry about my health too, now I'm getting into my late 30's.
I've always loved a drink, but for the last 6 or so years, I would reckon I would be classed as a heavy drinker. I drink mostly at home, because a night out on the booze is REALLY expensive, as I can drink so much!
Unfortunately I am an "all or nothing" gal - I can go a few nights without having a drink, but when I do drink, I drink to get drunk. I've got to the stage of being able to polish off half a bottle of spirits in one sitting and even having 1 or 2 cans of beer afterwards too. I probably do that 3 times a week on average.
My OH doesn't like my drinking and hardly drinks at all - maybe 1 pint every couple of months max. I would like to do the same. I have a job I hate and drinking does brighten up my evenings and I look forward to a drink - so I know my triggers, I just can't seem to get out of that mindset.
So your support on here will be really appreciated and your tips to help me stop drinking will be invaluable. I will start going through the posts in more detail when I have a bit more time, but for the meantime, thanks for listening and I look forward to posting more!

Hi and welcome cazzasmazza :hello:
Great board this. Hope you enjoy your time here. I can drink up to 12 cans of beer a night and have no hangover the next day and, like you, I am concerned for my health and the image I portray to other people and my children. I am now past the macho " I can drink 10 pints a night" stage as I can do that and now realise there is nothing clever about it at all
Good luck

Morning all & welcome to the three newbies above. Good luck!! Just lost a reeeely long post (lucky you!) so might make this a post of 2 halves.
Had great day out in Bristol yesterday with DD & her friend until I got back to a £70 parking ticket . That car park has ALWAYS been free & there's no notice of any change at the entrance (stay is now restricted to 3 hours), when I saw the ticket I had to look round quite a bit to find a v small notice at the top of a v tall post, so the whole thing has been done deliberately so people won't notice & get stung for a fine :mad::mad::mad:
That ticket cost more than the whole day out, trains, ferries, drinks, lunch, & it was going to be SO mse.
So I let it drive me to drink. Actually, my tooth drove me to it...had one out a week ago & yesterday the adjacent one flared up  hope to goodness it's not another abscess that'd be 3 teeth in a row . Needed anaesthetic. Dentist at 3pm today...that might get August off to a flying start if I get another course of the non-drinking antibiotic! I'd have to have an af weekend!! Mind you, reading the side-effects of this stuff it would be better for my liver to stick to 2 bottles of wine a day.
Gonna post this & do another (I've had to throw a sickie today cos of tooth there might be a lot of this)

WB.God sounds like you are having fun ( Not). Regarding the fine did you take a photo of the sign. If it is not obvious you may be able to contest it. Not too sure on laws regarding this but may be worth a visit here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=163
They seem to know a bit more about it.

....moves on to embarrassing drunken incidents. Missing my mouth & throwing wine down myself can happen at the START of the evening! tbh I usually fall asleep before I can get into too much trouble....sometimes a bit too early eg at dinner table. There's always the "who are you?" & "how COULD I?!" the morning after...(that was YEARS ago....).
Bed wetting & women.....OH is good friends with a woman at work who was meeting her prospective in laws for the first time. They went to a v posh restaurant where she got completely sloshed ("nerves") & passed out, had to be carried out to a taxi & put to bed, proceeded to then wet the bed (shared with her fiance) & didn't even wake up!! Curiously enough he wasn't too impressed. He dumped her actually, though they're married now!
My tooth hurts:(:(
My appointment should be 2.30!! (what time is it when a chinaman goes to....)0 -
