I used to think that, but then after I realised I was alcoholic I know I DIDN'T have any control over myself when it came to alcohol. That's a wake up call for all people who admit they are alcoholic. They are powerless over alcohol. If one has power over it, one can stop. If one cannot stop, then one is powerless, and most likely alcoholic. Experience wasn't enough - in fact the more and longer I drank the less power I had over alcohol. My drinking got worse, not better.

I know I am an alcoholic and I think I admitted that to myself several years ago but I just don't want to give up completely. I am happy that I have cut down a lot though. I still drink way over the sensible limits most weeks but it's much less now and I'm not drinking everyday anymore.

A few years back I used to be on about 150 units a week or more, I just worked that out on a unit calculator. That can't be right surely._pale_

Sorry *shudders* That brought back memories of the 1980's, a little old lady that used to sit in our pub, nursing her pink gin and she'd get morose and start singing that. Don't want to be that person. Clinging on to the past.

Oh no that will be me, sitting in a pub listening to Bananarama and singing along when I'm 70 years old.:o:D

Just popping out to get the paper and maybe some choccie for after dinner.;) Hope everyone is okay.:A

    Morning all

Just took an age to catch up, as Fay mentioned (thanks my dear :)), I had to sit through a film last night and couldn't get on the pooter, the film was total drivel and it was over 2 hours long  I fought to stay awake but unfortunately missed the end  don't tell OH cos I don't think he noticed :D what a total waste of an evening, I was just beginning to get into my Marian Keyes book too!

YM, 5/30 for me please when you get a chance, I can't quite believe it and it is no easier whatsoever and I still feel like carp in the morning  thanks for the Blondie song, a classic, but ditch the one before okay hunny :)

Fay, please could I have the chicken, bacon, lemon, and cous cous recipe, sounds yum

Budge, Fay said she'd pm'd you for me last night, I hope you're okay? Your problem is that you care about everyone else and neglect your own feelings I think. You have been so supportive to your DH with his problems and not been letting off steam yourself. I hope this is something that can be resolved soon. You know where I am, if ever you want to chat drop me an email :)

Bis, good to see you posting, I miss your informative posts. Congrats on your 2 years xx

GC, thank you for the message yesterday when I was in the park with bells tolling, you are right, it's quite a sad position to be in. I read your message and I know you've said how you need to change yourself so that you no longer need alcohol but I just don't get how you do that  I am so happy for you that you have achieved it though and thank you so much for your constant support x

Lurks, I don't watch Strictly cos it's on at the wrong time of day for me, I'm usually cooking dinner so can't look at the screen and it's not summat I can just listen to cos I'd miss the dancing! Plus I'm the only one out of 5 people that would want to watch it, so I lose on the straws thing!

MP, hope you're okay hunny x

Everyone else, sorry I've forgotten what you've all said and I've only just read it  (years of drinking kills off the brain cells :undecided).

Off to mummies today for lunch, then I'm back to try and 'rubberise' my joint of pork  then gotta sort all the stuff out for tomorrow, DD1 and DS are back at school, DD2 goes back the following week but will be at the childminders all day tomorrow, she's v. excited :D Looking forward to work cos all the kids will be in which makes it more interesting, stressful and busy :)

    Back to normality, at last!

Very rude of me, sorry DJ, welcome

Sounds like you're at the cross roads now, fed up with feeling the way you do. So now's a good time to change :) Good luck with your quitting/cutting down journey, let us know how you're getting on :)

    Morning HB

I feel like I've been hit by a bus, Fri night/Sat morning I slept for exactly 12 hours, then last night did it again!! So since 11.30pm on Friday which was 36 hours ago I have slept for 24 hours and I'm still exhausted  this detox thing is killing me!

Still nice to not feel ill with it :D

    Have a lovely day :)
