Everybody that I know who has tried controlled drinking has gone back to where they were before they stopped.
Quite - I think that most people on these threads have crossed the 'no going back' threshold to drinking in moderation. I hope to be proved wrong, but like RA, I have never known anyone (and I know a lot of people with drink problems) that can go back to controlled, safe, moderate drinking.0 -

I have certainly been there GC...thats why for me it has to be complete abstinence.
I do have bottles in the cupboard & knowing that I could open one (but choose not to) actually helps me......but I also know that even a sip means I will straight back to where I started.:o:o My willpower is strong at the moment & I am making the most of it.
Just about to have an evening Horlicks:D Been drinking valerian herbal tea at night but think this may be making me feel `groggy` in the morning.
Jo - I hope you are Ok xx
Sleep well everyone

Budgie, came on here to try to catch up and just read your post. I don't know what I can say about your marriage. The drinking I (we) can understand and we'll be here for you when you come out the other side. You've been supporting your OH through his unemployment and depression and it's been hard but you've been an absolute star despite the dreadful toll it's had on you. You must feel it's more than this or you would be sticking with it. I feel I'm rambling but that's because I don't want to give offence. I just want to say, Budgie, you've been so caring and supportive of us please think of yourself now, and keep in touch:A0

Budgie
I wish I was as eloquent as you when it came to replying to posts. Just want to wish you some peace and calm. You know we are all thinking of you.
X Factor plus Stella didn't get me last night, that's a positive break in routine.
Sleeping so much better so that's 5/30.
