Hi - been on DFW for a while now and am getting things on track with budgeting etc. - gone from being too scared to look at my bank account and outgoings to being a bit obsessive about where every penny goes, so that's good!

I've realised while going through the process that one of the areas I really need to cut down on is alchohol - to be honest I've been having a drink every night and it's got to stop because: -

1/ It costs me around £80per month!
2/ It's really bad for me!
3/ I really need to lose weight
4/ I want to stick around for my kids!

Now, I'm not proposing giving up alchohol altogether as I know where my problem lies (drinkin every night) what I really want to do is stop drinking in the week, so I have 4 alchohol free days a week (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs) - this would cut my alchohol down by over 50% and I'm sure I'll feel better, lose weight and have more money!

I've read quite a few posts on here but there are so many I can't possibly get through them all...!

So - can you help me? I would like to make a pledge etc. but not sure how it works on here.

Really hoping I can get some help and support on here as I have done elsewhere on DFW.......

Hello and welcome Marthasdad.Good luck with your cutting down.
What you can do if you like is decide how many alcohol free days you want to have in September and next month Yellowmonkey will be keeping score and will add you to his list.
Keep reading and posting on here and you will soon have lots of help and support coming your way.

    :hello:

Hi all! Count me in for the Monday challenge. I'll be AF tonight and then it's target met:T but I'm hoping to add a few more days before the end of the month.

Not been on the thread for all of about 20 hours and I had 5 pages to catch up on. Lots of positivity on here today and great to see some old faces and new ones too.

I'm a bit of a dancing queen myself, I love it especially Abba and sixties stuff. But my absolute favourite is Scottish. It's one of my hobbies (along with drinking:rotfl:)and I'm off to a class tonight.

    Be back soon.
  • Can hardly keep my eyes open at work today.

MP~glad nothing was wrong at the dentist. Imagine how much that would have cost you  I fancy my dentist. I used to have a real phobia before I found him. Now I want to go :rotfl:

    Off for a strong coffee.

    Much love X
    Need to start again :o

Unfortunately the New NHS system doesn't allow the dentist any flexibility.
There used to be a small nhs fee for "assessment and advice" which would go towards the time taken to examine you.
The new system has only 3 fees which means sometimes people get stung.
The alternative for the dentist is to not charge you at all, which would then mean the NHS wouldn't know you had been in, which would lead to one of their beloved boxes not being ticked. Then if the dentist did that often enough they would then get penalised by the NHS for underperforming!
It's a silly system that has few if any redeeming features

I'm going for AF tonight and then hopefully tomorrow night as well. Opened a bottle with dinner yesterday afternoon and drank the whole bottle, tho I did make it last about 6 hours!! Then had a glass of that 'White Grape Shloer'. Anyone tried it? I tried the White Grape and Cranberry one last week (OH bought it for me). God knows why he choose that one. I had asked him to get me a bottle of it as I wasnt going to be drinking and it would be a substitute. I dont drink Rose wine and rarely red, so why he choose a cranberry one is beyond me. Anyhow tried the plain White Grape one last night and it isnt too bad actually, so I'll be picking up a few bottles of that. Hopefully the Shloer and you fantastic people on here will help me beat last weeks (unbelievable for me) record of 2 days - I'm going for 3. BUT will take one day at a time. ;-) xx

Morning everyone :hello: Well its morning for me as I have not long been up ( nights ).

Marthasdad. As has been said you work out a total of days for next month that you are happy with when you will not have any alcohol and set that as your target. Someone ( Me next month ) keeps a running total of everyones scores and posts it eveyday so we can all see how we are going. It is only for fun and sometimes people do not reach their target or even exceed it :A ( 12 for me please Miss P ) :D. Let me know if you fancy it and just post a total and I will add you to the list as I have everyone who has posted today ;)

Well been on my Wii Fit and have lost 4lbs and have a BMI of 28.85 . I know I have to lose some from my belly so will start some exercising soon to remedy that. My BMI last Monday was 29.35 so going in the right direction anyway ;). I have not had a beer now for 8 days in a row so just goes to show how many empty calories I was quaffing :o

Have a good evening all and work for me tonight and then 4 days off :j

Jo nice to see you back from your holiday and at least you managed 1 Af day. That was one more than me

Molly nice to smell the leather from your whip again :D

    Au Revoir

  • YM, can you add me to the list for September? I'm going to go for 21 days AF.

Three weeks seems a good length of time, but a month still sounds a bit daunting.
