That is the power of alcohol.
It is so addictive to some people that they would rather have a few drinks than a meal.0 -
Gromit, good luck for tomorrow xx
BB, well done, im sure all will be fine xx
YM, thanks for stepping up, i'll be joining please with a target of 30 days ta xxDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
:hello::hello::hello::hello:Hi Budgie, so glad you're back. Seeing your post was like a old friend walking in. Sorry you're down but keep us posted on progress with OH, please. Is it Bank Holiday weekend you see DS?
I just went out for a few hours and came back to 5 new pages of posts
We may not be the most sober but I'm sure we must be the cleanest thread on here, everyone seems to be going off to have a bath:D
:T to everyone who's managed an AF Tuesday:T
gromit, I'll be thinking of you at 10.30 in the morning Good Luck, hope you manage to sleep OK.
Wobbledoos you sound so much like I was before starting on here. OH and I would share 2 bottles each night but I always had the biggest share. I've made modest progress and have even cut down (a bit) when I drink at weekends. I've cut down about a third but ideally I'd like it to get closer to half. I think that might be my October target!! Like fay I have come to prefer water with my meals but I think that's because if I'm limiting my wine intake I'd rather save it for proper drinking.
mumofb, I tend to cook with fairly carp wine. I'm sure Gordon Ramsay wouldn't approve but it stops me drinking it. Or sometimes I buy small, cheap bottles of wine in France or freeze the remainder of bottles that I've opened and not liked for cooking.
sam, I find that eating does help shut the bells up, but that may be because we eat fairly late and once it gets past about 8.30 ish I'm unlikely to drink as if I'm having a drinking day I want to start early!!
Honeybear, well done on your target, beachbeth good luck with your tests and happyshopper it's good to see you posting again.
YM I assume it's your first night back at work, hope it's going OK?
Very long post 'cos so much to talk about.
Hugs to all virtual friends and lurkers.
And finally 7AF please Miss P.0 -

Hello to Honey Bear and Wobbledoos :hello:
Hope you find this thread useful. Good luck with the rest of August.
YM thanks for volunteering to take on September scoring. Excellent news.
BB, thinking of you hun. Sorry to hear your emotions are running around a lot on you at the moment. How are things with DH? If you can get him into a routine of eating and sleeping and fresh air that might help?
Seems cool to me that some of you lot are waiting for closing time at the shops. I'm pretty sure I could buy wine now at the 24 hour shop if I wanted so that approach doesn't work in London.
Still on 7/8 Miss P. I wasn't AF last night and have to accept that my body is no longer dealing with my previous levels of drinking now I've cut down so much the rest of the week. I would have been ok with just under a bottle of wine before whereas now I'm awake at stupid o'clock feeling ruff. I guess this is progress of sorts. I am sleeping fine on days when I don't have too much wine. Mind you I need to be up at this time some nights to catch up on the last 8 pages on here. Can't get to read this during the day now I'm working again. Another good problem to have after ages unemployed.
Ages ago on here I worked out the last time I had been alcohol free for a complete week was around the time of a friends wedding. I found out since then that was 10 years ago this Autumn. Discovering this thread has been a huge help as I've clocked up quite a few booze free days which I hadn't over the previous 10 years. Unless there was a really good reason like I was ill or in hospital or driving.
I now want to get the amount I'm drinking on my drinking days down. I'm pleased about the AFDs but I need to manage the drinking days better too.
Gromit, good luck for tomorrow's interview!0 -
Well done everyone
. It's hard to say how much of an effort this all is until you try it yourself.
I've managed 2 AF days now, despite going to Lidl yesterday where the booze section is right next to the till, and indeed some really cheap, really nice wine right next to the conveyor belt. I was paying with cash, and swiftly calculated how I could camouflage the cost of a bottle or even two if I "lost" the receipt en route home. But, to my own amazement, I resisted. Came home with a load of diet ginger beer, which really helped (it's the astringent quality I think.)
So, put me down for another AF 3 days, cos that'll take me up to Friday night. The weekend itself could be tricky (lots of social stuff), so one step at a time.

I thought that you were going to get suitably dressed and come for a walk on my beach.
It is a SSSI and I got told off for nicking plants from it.:o
Remember that we deal with alcohol,
cunning, baffling, powerful!
UM naughty naughty - SSSI - ooooh what for? And what on earth were you trying to steal - its illegal to take ANY wild plants from anywhere in the UK without permission me thinks:rolleyes:
I thought the virtual beach walk was the night before - DOH!
RA question for you as I forget did you do the AA route?
And why on earth is it so hard to give up - I am a monster at the moment - really - wild eyes, hair like a sea monster (well thats normal) and I am so grumpy and just cross with everything.
I know its addictive - but - :mad::mad:
Waves to you all - I managed to go to bed with the Marian whotsisit book you recommended on my iphone and just about strangled myself - well strangled my tumy anyway all tied up in my headphones this morning.
DS informed me I can use his ipod speakers from now on.......:rotfl:
I have been given a repreave at work and have 3 months to redo some of my work and then look to see if I can stay on - hey ho that should take us til xmas.
Like others thought it was funny to hear about the 'preferring the wine to drink rather than with food' - YUP thats me. Water with meals - means when I do have wine, its for drinking.
Wonder when that balance tipped - it was always with food along time ago
Morning all
Millions of hellos - too many for my sleepy monster eyes at the moment - the moon is a 'waning cresent' - surely that can't be affecting things can it......:rotfl:
:DField work today - sober - hurrah and not hungover which I will feel the benefits of I am sure when out in the field - soon to be leaves OFF time here - so I have plenty to do until all the leaves fall off my little trees.:DTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
