I wasn't even AF last night when I said I was going to be. I finished the half bottle of wine in the fridge and then had another bottle after that as my DH brought one home for me (at my request.) I'm wondering whether to even bother with keeping score with my AF days if I don't stick to it.

That's the thing about alcohol. You didn't want to drink last night, but you did. You had plans to be AF, but drank instead. This is alcohol affecting us people - we change our plans and behaviours to have a drink.
Normal people don't have to do that.

It has such a tight grip on us . RecoveringAlcoholic says it is 'Cunning, baffling, powerful' - we all agree on that one!!

If this thread isn't working and you cannot stick to your targets consistently, then try other means.
    Good luck

Phew you volunteered - I was ALMOST at the thinking about it stage but I am away a bit in Aug and know I would be rubbish.

    Well done you

Old habits die hard - out last night after 9pm straight to the corner shop - 2 cans cider (v strong). Drank in about half hour - IDIOT.

Why - ??????? GC and others you are so right - French student put a glass of wine in my hand at dinner 8pm - I almost refused and thought - OK one won't hurt.

No brainer eh - then I thought OK had one need/want more.

Purse will be in the office tonight - without a doubt. Idiot.

No hard time - been tossing and turning all night (when I made it to bed) fell asleep on sofa til 2am. Woken up several times through the night.

This WAS my life and I WONT go back there - stern telling off to self.

My excuse in my head - ? DD birthday am missing kids - to be honest the only excuse I needed was that it was Monday and I wanted more drink after the first drink.

Note to self - don't accept the first drink.

MP you'd think by now I'd have that one sussed eh?

    Why indeed.
Perhaps your relationship with alcohol is not quite normal. Alcohol frequently masks other things in life so we drink to escape. That's why for many of us, putting down the drink doesn't work. As 'we' are still the same.
Drinking strong cider very quickly doesn't sound too pleasant to me, and that's why that first drink gets you drunk. If you didn't have the first drink, you wouldn't have been necking cider

It's amazing we put ourselves through all the drama for the sake of alcohol

Well just got back from Golf and shot my best score of the year so far :D

Not AF tonight but will be limited intake and no where near as much as normal.

Sorry to hear about your Horror night Jo. Hope everything works out OK but if not your Kitchen will be worth a mention on the OS board as it will be so shiny.

Eta...By the way you were totally in the right sm1_051.gif

Just going to have a couple of burgers and watch TV as the family are out watching "Ice age 3 3D".

Jo - you weren't exactly drunk, you can remember what time DD1 came in and all those details. It wasn't your fault things went so drastically bad. I hate it when my DDs do not answer their phones, it is so worrying and frustrating. It's also really, really difficult when Mr PIR argues with one of them (usually DD1 or DD2) and I have to get involved, and it turns into World War III.

    17 AFDs for me, please.

Oh dear, summer hols are here, all DDs broke up today. DD1 has gone out - I don't know what time she'll be back or whether she'll decide to stay at a friend's house. But I've got my interview tomorrow, so I'm determined not to stay awake worrying about her, for once.

    Bi for now xx

I think PIR Jo. It wasn't just your fault by the sounds of it. Trouble is, drink makes everything seem very exaggerated, including our emotions. So we fly off the handle when normally we would maybe just have a moan about something.

Hope things are better this evening?

  • I turn my back for a moment and you all go heywire....

Jo, your children are being children, they are pushing boundarys's and seeing what they can and can't get away with, you and your OH have to decide what is reasonable behaviour.. I think your doing great and wish you well on your AFD challenge.. a lot of what we do is based on how we were brought up and whether we agreed or rebelled against this.. yes i'd rather know where and when my child was/coming home but your child did come home at a reasonable time and still got ......... for not staying in contact... in my day we didn't have mobiles etc, so this wasn't so expected of us. I'm not saying take your eye/or your OH eye off the ball but we do have to allow a certain amount of freedom or how do they ever grow up???

  • Apologies if out of place, but sometimes I could really SCREAM at this thread... we have our problems... let's not blame/pass/assume they are anyone/everyone else's problem.... sometimes they are just part of life with/or without alcohol...

sorry... sneaking off quietly again before causing a riot...

I agree with what you are saying GC. I usually find a lot of sense in what you write on here but I don't think I am ready to change my relationship with alcohol completely as yet.

I am not AF again today and I think I might take a break from this thread for a while. I have got some personal problems at the moment and I can't really focus on cutting down on alcohol right now. I know drinking isn't solving any of my problems but I am not in the right frame of mind to give cutting down proper focus at this point in time.

I think everyone on here is doing very well and trying very hard. :A I hope to be back and ready to try again soon. Take care.x

I think (personally) that any AFD's are a result.. target's, well they are set in the hope that we can achieve them, without any target.... where will we be??? don't go, don't leave us.. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Any AFD's are better than none, and I know GC will jump on us about being Alcoholics but if you can do some days without then its better than none.. please don't go. ..................please...................................
