PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. If you are selling the property, and they are the buyer, THEY should be paying YOU, not the other way round...
You've already been scammed for £99, so reply to them pointing out that exchange, it will be THEM paying YOU 10% of the property value, and not you paying them!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Thanks for all your replies. Since I started the thread the company phoned me again and I told them all of my concerns. They insist they are a legitimate company and that they will put in writing that if the transactions does not go through for a reason at their end then I will get a full refund. Also said that if i paid by credit card I would be covered with that too.
There website address is firstdirectinvestments.com
They said that although they have only traded in England for 6 months they have been trading in other countries for over 6 years. The guy who set it up is called John Edward Turner.....
You couldn't really make all this up, probably is a scam....
Still would appreciate more advice... As the deal is really good for me.0 -
Did you ask what the £800 is for?0
-
As the deal is really good for me.
and that, right there, is the basis of any scam that's ever worked.
As others have said, you're selling the property - if they want to make money, let them take a cut of any completed deal - like an estate agent does.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
I have just been browsing, as this sounds dodgy, and came across a forum called Absolute Spain Forum. If you go to the General Discussion section, and search for the thread on Rightmove International, where First Direct can be found on page 4, which shows it is almost certainly a scam.
I cannot post the link as this is my first post, but I had to register to tell you not to hand over your £800.00:eek:Don't Panic - and carry a towel

Do not let your eagerness to sell cloud your judgement.
This is not like selling below market value and not getting as much as you hoped for.... no...
This is theft and not only will you be left without a sale, but you will also be seriously out of pocket for the privelige.
They are lying thieves and you should have nothing more to do with them."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -
