I am looking at staying at the Contemporary as its close to Magic Kingdom; we probably won't have a car. Will my only eating options be disney/expensive (ie hotel, theme park, boardwalk) or is it possible to get to any "normal" (lol) restaurants? I tried to see on google but didn't achieve much - I couldn't even find the i19! I'd be much happier going to a Golden Corral or CiCis.

It is going to be quite an effort to get offsite to eat from the Contemporary if you have no car. It wouldn't be my first choice if you want to eat offsite but stay onsite (and I love it there, my Disney timeshare is there).

If you want to eat offsite, I'd hire a car. If you don't want to hire a car, consider staying at one if the Downtown Disney hotels such as Saratoga Springs which are walkable to offsite dining.

Either that or resign yourself to Disney dining choices :D

To get offsite you could do it via bus but it will be a bit of a pain. You could bus to DTD and taxi. Taxi from the Contemporary to offsite won't be cheap as it's the most remote area from the outside world.

Happy to help if you have questions, like I say I love it there but I'm happy to accept Disney dining for a week or so before caving and getting a car ;)

    I absolutely agree with this.

Or you could do a split stay so a week at Contemporary and putting up with Disney food and then a week away from Disney so you can eat elsewhere.

You could go to Downtown Disney by bus but that is expensive too and a bit of a pain if doing it every day.

We are staying in Disney for 2 weeks and are hiring a car for one week so we can go further afield. We probably spend a week in Disney to be honest, so this will work for us. The Disney Resort covers 47 square miles - it is huge - and this is bigger than Manchester to give you an idea. If you want to stay and do things in Disney you do not need a car, if you want to go further afield I would advise a taxi or car (we have always used taxis until now, we are getting a car this time for a change). You can hire one from Alamo at The Swan Hotel (in the Disney area).
  • Hello all,

We are are going to Disney in Orlando for the 1st time and despite reading many guides we cannot decide whether it is worth us having meal plans or not?, We are going in July for our Honeymoon and staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge

We have been to the Paris one on a number of times and do not normally buy the meal plans there however it wasn't until today we realised Breakfast was not included with the hotels which is making me believe it is worth us doing it

We are going for 14 nights and planning on hitting Universal etc probably on a one day at disney/ one day elsewhere business

The other question I have is if anyone knows a site that does sporting events for Orlando as I would really like to go and see something while I am there?

We are currently budgeting for £200 a day, in peoples experience is that enough?

    Think thats all thanks :D

Me and hubby are staying at Port Orleans next March with no car so will be using Disney Transportation.

I'd also like to do Universal as Virgin Holidays are offering a free :money: park pass. My question is could you get from Port Orleans to Universal via the Disney Parks, for example, Port Orleans to Magic Kingdom then is there a bus stop for International Drive and then retrace our steps back to Port Orleans.

Does that make sense? thanks for any help.

This is the site for Orlando City "Soccer" Club. It might help (to see the poor standard of football over there. :D

We are hoping to go to the Newcastle match as a former player from our club is playing for Orlando. I think he has found his ability level ;)

is the £200 a day for everything or just food,
we are a family of 3 and spent roughly $90 plus tips per day on food and drinks that was for a cooked breakfast for dh and ds, counter service meals in the parks for 3 of us and a evening meal for 3, we allowed $200 per day

We are going to go in December, kids are 9 and 4, how long should we stay for? 7 nights? 8? 10? 14 is our max.

We are flying to Tampa, will arrive 17:45 on the day of departure, return 19:45 on last day.

There is more than enough to do to keep you all occupied for 14 days. If 14 is your max, I'd go for that (and you still won't get to see/do everything).:)
I wouldn't even consider only going for 7 days, although I know others do. It always takes us about 3 days to adjust to the time difference properly, by then the holiday would be half over.
Also the majority of the cost is the flights, the extra days cost relatively less as a proportion of the total holiday cost.

My friend are I are looking at going to Disnwy World at the end of January/beginning of February for a few days. Sadly it's a bit more complitacted as she already in lives Florida. The plan is for me to fly to Tampa where she lives, spend a few days with her then we'll head to Disney World together. We're looking at park tickets and accomadation. I've found this website which looks great. The 5 day Premium Ticket looks perfect for our needs.

    http://wdtc.disneyinternational.com/?Custom=True&Banner=False&Introduction=False&News=False&Offer=False&Store=False&Flag=LBI

But when I get through to the part for buying the tickets it says exculsively for UK guests.

    My questions are:

If I bought 2 tickets for us and took them with us would anyone notcie my friend is a US citizen and

If so does anyone know of a similar website where we can get park tickets and hotels as a package for a UK and US citizen?

Thanks for any advice. Although my friend's been before it will be my first visit so everything's very confusing.
