Hi all we are planning on doing Florida next Feb to do the Run Disney Princess events & as such are tied with our dates. We will be there at the end of Feb and my DD won't be 6 until the end of March. I just wondered if anyone had experienced any flexibility with the age restriction at Discovery Cove?! I have 2 other children who will be 11 & 7 who would love to swim with the dolphins (as would I lol) but it would break DDs heart to watch us from the sidelines & i couldn't do that to her0

They will be very strict for insurance reasons.
Also, the other thing is that *should* something happen to her you'd not have any insurance cover because you had lied about her age and you'd never be able to forgive yourself.
We are going back this year because there are some thing DS could not do. We have an 'all on or none on' policy in our house - unless it is for something small.
The other thing I would like to add is that DC is VERY cold. My son could not go on the reef because it was just too cold for little ones to put their faces into, so we paid all that money to go in the lazy river and the lagoon. I wish someone had told me that it really was too cold for under 10's to get a good day out of it and your money's worth.
I hope that helps somewhat.
PS. Also, it is not really a swim as such, you get pulled along for about 10 seconds, that is all! You get your pictures taken but the only 'swimming' is when they pull you along for 50 yards.0 -
Thanks blue_monkey I was thinking about it as a very expensive treat as we're not planning on going to Florida again for a long time but if the kids aren't going to enjoy it then it would be a huge waste. In all honesty we'll be busy enough (and skint enough :rotfl:) with Disney, Universal & Seaworld!
On a different topic whats Kennedy Space Centre like for kids - I went to Florida numerous times as a child but never did this?
Thanks0 -
NW, I thought it was better to be honest about it. We have done it now and won't go again but I wish the kids had been able to get more out of it. ON reflection, a trip to the Keys would have been better - and cost the same!!
I am not sure about Kennedy tbh, it's on our 'must do' list for next time too.
And an airboat ride.0 -

I'd also weigh in on the Discovery Cove issue to say that my DD did this when she was 8 - and she is quite petite so I'd deem her the size of an average 6 year old at that point! We were not asked for ID at any point, but she was really too small to enjoy it. She was out of her depth for much of the time when you are stood around and was a bit uncomfortable for that reason. Also, the sheer size of the dolphins was intimidating for her, and all in all if I could do it again (I'm too tight to pay it again), I'd have waited a couple more years.
Hope that makes you feel better too0 -
... but I should have also said that mine LOVED the reef and weren't bothered by the cold at all. Kids eh, you can never tell0

Hi people,
We are off to florida end of may and need to organise car hire. Has anyone used Car on the Drive as a hire company and if so how did you find their service.0 -

I've never used them personally, but the Dibb (which I suspect is the largest online community of Florida holidaymakers from the UK) has many glowing reports0 -
Yes we have used Caronthedrive 3 times now and have them booked for both trips this year :j they are the best think since sliced bread..I can't rate them high enough.
