I'm using the Brits Guide to Orlando 2009. I borrowed this book from my local library and would recommend it. There's a sizeable section on other things to do besides the theme parks. You can reserve your library books online by the way (just incase someone didn't know).

Is that the one with the busy days guide for the theme parks inside?
    Thx

We are looking at staying in a villa next year in orlando. Seems to be a huge choice. First thing seems to be to work out what area to look in. What areas would people suggest and also which areas should we avoid?

    thanks

Sure there are people that can fill you in more, but I have friends who stayed in Kissimmee thinking they were quite close in and ended up being miles away. After a long day at the parks, the last thing you want is a 40 minute drive. If the villa seems cheap, then check its location on Google maps.
There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.

    Depends on your plans
    Are you hiring a car?
Will you be spending most days at parks and want a property closer to Disney?

Hi all, I am due to go to Orlando in September- 1st time.

We plan to do all of the Disney parks & Seaworld- none of the Universal ones due to cost, and wanting to make the most of our Disney tickets. We also plan to do some of the main shopping mails.

My question is based around not wanting to come home thinking, is parks & shopping all there is?

Is there anything else you would recommend us doing in Orlando? (other than something like swimming with Dolphins- husband not that keen).

Also, other than Ponder Rosa & Sizzler, which restaurants are best? (We are staying at Holiday Inn ID)

    We are a couple of 25yrs & 33yrs.

    Ta muchly!!

We like to go to 'Winter Park', which is a town about 20mins drive from I-drive. It has a lovely boat ride there, www.scenicboattours.com . This takes you around the lakes and small water canals past some lovely houses - they point out places of interest, wildlife etc. When you are done with the boat tour, you can wander around the town (pretty buildings, small park, farmers market, small shops, nice cafes).

If you have a car, then I recommend a beach - the nearest beaches are on the east coast, but the beach at Clearwater is nice (on the west coast).

I have heard Mount Dora is nice, although we have never been there. It is a town, I think there is a little railway there, antique shops, not sure what else - but it may be worth a visit.

Pretty sure will be hiring a car to get around. Imagine we will be going to the parks many of the days, say 8 or 9 out of 14 days, but not just the disney parks. Waterparks, seaworld, universal etc. as well

    thanks
