strange things overheard at the PO

this thread is hilarous!!!
I always get daggers when I go into the PO with my eBay packages and once asked if there was a problem as the girl was huffing and puffing cos I asked for proof of postage!
I was in a different PO last week and was chatting away with the PO clerk when all of a sudden my foot was soaking wet (I was wearing flip flops). I looked down and noticed a big puddle on the floor and lots of dribbles where I had walked in. Being 36 weeks pregnant I thought my waters had gone and randomly started patting the seat and legs of my jeans.
PO Clerk 'Is everything OK?'
ME 'Um, not sure. my foot is wet and there's a puddle on the floor - I'm not sure if my waters have gone' (I'm a first timer, so no idea what to expect!!!)
PO Clerk - 'God, not in this shop you don't!'
Guy behind me - 'It's alright love, it's the fridge engineer behind you - he's just emptied part of the fridge and there's water everywhere' :rotfl:
PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God help me, if I my waters do every go in the PO :rotfl:A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Oh dear, it was my turn to make a fuss at the PO today. It was the large Crown one I sometimes use and have had problems with before. I had a pile of items and handed over my pre filled COPs certificates but man said I couldn't use them. I asked why and he said new post office rules and tore them up even though I told him I had a lot of large letters to go (and I'm aware that the PO won't give till receipts for LL), he said not to worry I could have a till print out receipt for all the items instead. We started on the heavy items first and he laboriously filled out till receipts for me. Then I handed over the large batch of large letter, all under 100g and he stuck stamps on them all and put them in the bags. I asked for till receipts and he said I wasn't allowed any
I was very polite and said that of course i am allowed proof of posting and he insisted the Post office will not issue till receipts or provide any other form of proof for large letters! He tried to just carry on with the rest of the mail but I insisted and said he could jolly well give me back my items then and get the manager.
He then tried telling me that only packets were insured, so I had no need to have any COPs, so I admit to laughing and telling him not to make it up as he went along. In the end he allowed me to fill out new pre filled POPs and he stamaped one of them but he warned me he will not do so in future and if i want POPs and my mail insured I either need to pay packet rate regardless of actual size of the item, or send items recorded.
I must try his till again tomorrow as it seems likely i will have sold more of these thin light items !I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. My local PO are very inconsistent over things like POP's. I usually pre-fill the POP cards and hand them over with my parcels etc. Sometimes they stamp them, sometimes they tear them up and give me a print out. You can bet your life that if anytime I dont pre-fill a POP card they will hand me one with an accompanying eye-roll!!£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

the crown office in the town where i live and the one where i work are awful, always hardly any staff, the one where i work has 1 on at lunch time when its the busiet time.
Ive once had a counter staff refuse to issue POP with the address etc on because the que was too long, i got quiet annoyed and told her wasnt my fault and that the reason the que was soo long was because thye had 8 counters with only 2 open and that maybe if they got some more staff it wouldnt have ques out the door. She still refused and put all the same weight items on one receipt, so i wrote the addresses on my self when i got back to the office, lucky i didnt need to claim for any of them.
I usually use the small post office in the shop round the corner from my home or the one in a neighbouring visit where the staff are so nice and friendly and dont mind spending time doing POP for any item or recordeds even when theres a que. Their customer service and politness keeps me going back to them sometimes on a daily basis. I dont mind queing there either as i get the service i expect.
The crown post offices are more interested in selling you finances and insurance or dealing with people withdrawing money from their post office accounts and paying for bills etc then people actually POSTING things, the main reason they exist... GRRRR0 -

Funniest thing I heard just a couple of weeks ago was a woman buying her car tax and asking it to be "backdated to the 1st July". The counter clerk explained that there was an additional charge if she wanted that (cant remember exactly how much but over £100 I think), She immediately got on the phone to her OH and started a loud coversation saying OMG-there's-a-£100-extra-charge-on-this-what-shall-I-do-I-dont-have-the-money-isnt-it-a-rip-off-thats-outrageous etc etc etc for about 5 minutes. Long story short the counter clerk eventually worked out that she hadnt realised what the date was and thought it was still July even tho it was actually 3rd August and she didint need to backdate at all. It would have been funnier if there hadnt been a queue of about 10 people behind her and the PO was about to close for the day!!0
