I'm on NTL cable broadband with ethernet connection from setop box. Don't suppose I can use the router function of this kit w/o the ADSL modem function??0
-
i use the wgt624 and a wg511t on my broadband.
The one at pcworld is the 54mps not the 108mbps.
Think if you looked hard enough you would find this for that sort of money at other places.PC world renowned for being overpriced
check places like ebuyer, dabs, novatech, simply, aria, redstore, broadbandbuyer, broadbandstuff, and see what offers are on.
the latter have bundles of the 108mbps with the laptop card.
Depends what you want really.
i can get upto the full 108mbps as well, so its worth going for as the 54mbps is old hat now.0 -
Actually that's a superb price for this kit. It's usually around the £60 mark for the wireed version and £80 for the wireless if you hunt hard.
Getting it for this price is good even in light of the reductions which will come through in the next few weeks due to the faster model.
Bear in mind that for internet surfing this is no slow coach. Even at 40 MBps throughput it's not much of a sacrifice on a LAN. If you're crazy for speed then use wires, if not then wireless isn't yet at the stage where one standard to the next provides an amazing boost. The difference between 564 MB and 108 MB in not that great in reality. And 108MB is at a price premnium just now.
I'd hardly say that 54 MB is old hat. For most people's uses this kit is plenty fast enough with matching cards coming in cheaper due to the new speed increase.... and that's all I have to say about that.0 -
I bought myself a Belkin Modem/Router about 6 weeks ago because I couldn't afford the Netgear model. I'd be VERY surprised if anyone could beat £44.99 from any of the discount suppliers - because I couldn't find this for less than about £65 plus delivery.
Plus with PC World instore you won't pay postage and if you have any problems you can take it back without having to RMA it through the appalling customer service departments of the likes of Aria, Ebuyer etc.
Also it may be "Only" 54MB/s but only a year or so ago this was leading technology, and is still plenty fast enough for most home networks using Broadband. Don't be fooled into buying a 108MB piece of kit just because PC World has decided that they are going to clear out all of the 54MB kit.
Good luck to those intrepid bargain hunters who are heading to PCW tomorrow - I've got the rellos coming round so I'm not allowed out!You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Very good piece of kit IMO... I've got one and setup a couple with friends. Much easier setup than the Belkin and USR models I've also tried, though the range isn't as good (speed does drop off faster than with the USR one)0

Got mine this morning at PCWorld ;D
along with a couple of PNY 128MB USB memory stick thingies.
Everyone was buying the Netgear Modem/Router - all stores have around 40 of them apparently, or they did have at 11am.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I got mine this morning too
Have also rung and reserved a Belkin usb thingy from Argos at £24.99 so with my £10 voucher off the package will have cost me £60. Happy bunny!
PCW car park was bedlam, with people arguing over every space, fortunately Tesco car park was near at hand. Seven left at 11.45 and it went through the till at full price as had a load of things already according to the sales assistant. PCW at its best ;D0 -

Cheesed OFF BIG Time.
Been to the one in Derby. Got many on shelves only to be told it's an internet offer only. Others were turned away as well.
Surely this can be a case for Trading Standards ?Any Advise welcome!!
Why can others purchase from stores ?
really hacked off !!I have learnt that providing excellence gets you what you deserve and not what you want !!!0 -
Hi guys,
Need some advice here as I am not very good with computer stuff.
I have NTL 1.5m - that I know and I used to use a cable router but that's a goner as it keep shorting the power adaptor and now relying on direct connection which is kindda harzardous as it will trip someone soon.
If I get one of these Wireless Router, surely I will need some kind of adaptor for my laptop to get connection wireless.
So what adaptor do I need? Some one mentioned a Belkin USB wireless thingy.....would that do? Any bargain for this device?
Thanks in Advance,
Tab0
