 Have you tried pressing F11 to bring up the Recovery program? See the manual for instructions on how to do this.

It would seem that when you received it, it was in perfectly good working order. Hardly the sellers fault you can't remember a password. Are you sure you've got a Windows 2000 installation CD in the drive before you turn on, and then pressing F12 to show the boot menu and selecting the CD drive from there? You might want to try with a Linux live cd, to see if the issue is the laptop refusing to boot off a CD or a bad windows CD. A suitable live cd and instructions can be found here. Post back if you need any extra help.

ive tried 3 differnt cds.. book cd support for windows 2000 / driver and manual . and one cd i downloaded from a pc a programme that was to be coppied and run on the laptop to delete passwords...neither of them even ran so im not sure if the cd drive is working or not?.
i always remeber passwords as i only ever keep 2 ot 3 to the max //all my emails and stuff have the same passwords. and i didnt even put a password on the admin account or anythin of it.
all i did was turn it on then try to connect it to dialup bt i couldnt seem to connect it so turned it off next time i turned it on it asked for password.
the seller sent the floppy drive sepretly which arrived today . could be cos cd drive not working? or as a spare one. dont know.
but it just seems too old and messy and too hard work and a stress/:(
ive tried all sorts over the last few days and nothing seems to be working.

But in the Original Post you said that your sister had added a password.
If that was the case then you can hardly blame the seller, can you?

Some Thinkpads, and possibly other laptops, cannot use both cd drive and floppy drive at the same time. You can swop them and use one or the other.
In post #14 Outofworksch gave you a link to the User Manual for your machine which will tell you how to do this swap.
I imagine it is possible that the seller simply forgot to send the floppy drive the first time. An easy mistake to make.

Again in post #14, Outofworksch gave you a link to a specialist forum that may help you with your password problem. Have you tried there?

None of those are the CD we specified, you need an installation CD. You may be able to download one from somewhere, or you may have to buy one on ebay.

No. You need to find a copy of the Windows 2000 installation CD. I might be able to post you a copy of it if you pay costs.
