ibm thinkpad

hiya
my sisters just bought this and first thing shes done is aciidently put a password on it well didnt type one in but clicked something and its done
Does anyone know how to remove it and get in the laptop /?

its a second hand one from ebay,doesnt have a repair cd or anything with it

    when it turns on it says administrator then enter password.
    or dial up ?

    Was the administrator account the one she activated the password for?

    If she didn't enter any password and it worked fine before, then it should be blank.

    yes it was the administrator , but it wont work as blank :confused:
    tried it .
    i also last nite took the cmos battry out and turned the laptop on . then put it back on and thie morning had to adjust the date which i did and when it started still asked for the administrator password:mad:

    Any ideas please what to do ?
    take hard drive out connect to pc and do system restore would that work ?and how do you do it:o

    or any other way . its really not a good laptop and ive advised her not to keep it tooo old which seller didnt mention.

    Anyways any ways to get in it ?

    Can't reset a Thinkpad boot password (not windows password), if you ever put a password into the bios and forget it, you'll need a new motherboard.

    The official Microsoft solution is a full reinstall, obtaining the password or resetting it is possible but it's a painstaking process and not one most people could do for themselves. It involves taking advantage of the Win2K autorun feature to create a new admin account using a bootable CD.

    For my money, as it's not been used and doesnt hold any valuable data yet, id do a full reinstall of Win2K.
    You should have a license key on a label underneath the laptop, so you just need a disk.
