Rewarding son for a good report ?

We don't normally reward with gifts for good reports - however a fantastic report for DS and a good report for DD, this year has resulted in some new water pistols being purchased. Though my DH thinks they are for my benefit rather than DS or DD. Since its summer (yeah, right) they will be well used in family/friends water fights - worth much more than a meal out or game etc.
