teaandcakeordeath wrote: »My HSG was today. I'm a bit shell shocked to be honest as it showed I have two ovaries, but only one fallopian tube and half a uterus (a unicornuate uterus). Apparently it's very rare. It's never showed up in other tests/ scans. I'm gutted. Read up on it on the internet and the chance of miscarrying if pregnant is 60%, I'm 60% more likely to only have one kidney, 5-20% chance of total infertility and if pregnant not likely to carry to term and will 95% have to have a c-section as there is no room for baby to turn so would be breech. Don't see the consultant until May. Don't know if they'll consider me for Clomid as there's no guarantee that when I do ovulate it's from the connected ovary as usually the non-connected ovary is the dominant one and ovulates more frequently. Utterly devastated. I don't know what to do.
Huge hugs TCD. It's not the same, but I have a bicornuate uterus which, although having 2 sides, has a very large indent in the middle creating a heart-shape. Having any uterine deformity is rare, but it doesn't automatically mean infertile. I too *shouldnt* be able to carry to term as my babies run out of room. This has never been the case for me. My children have always been breech though - for the same reason.
I can't comment on the kidney, and obviously the lack of one fallopian tube can cause issues, but I had no idea about my uterus until after both my children had been born so its not always going to cause problems. You have one connectes tube and that is all you need.
I don't know if that has reassured you in any way, but try to stay positive. I know how hard that must be right now. I know women with unicornuate uterus' that have carried children so it is possible.
Take care and i will be thinking of you.14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
Thank you everyone. I'm going to ring the hospital tomorrow and ask what the name of my consultant is (I can't remember it for the life of me) and see if he either has any cancellations or if I can see him privately (bye bye honeymoon...).
I knew something was wrong and I had suspected a blocked tube but nothing like this. I know it's not the end of the world but to know that I will have a 'high risk' pregnancy and my dreams of natural and home births are totally shot.
At the last appointment my consultant told me that I would be eligible for 2 cycles of IVF if clomid failed but I have no idea if they give clomid in unicornuate cases or if the side that is connected actually ovulates. I suppose I'll have to have more investigations. They didn't mention anything about my kidneys today but I think they were a little surprised themselves at what they saw and they didn't seem very reassuring about my chances of pregnancy.
I have to go back in tomorrow and one of the women I work with has just had a little girl this weekend. There'll be pictures and everything flying around and I'm not sure how I'll deal with it. Until I know more I can't help but default to worst case scenario as my luck is terrible and I've already bucked the odds in having this so what's to stop all of the bad things happening.
Thank you everyone though.0 -
Well, happy birthday Lilymay! Congratulations - it's always darkest before the dawn..!
++++++++
Also congrats to Sarah! I've been secretly stalking you on Mumsnet anyway..

TCD - Sorry the results were so perplexing/worrying. I don't know anything about the condition you have described, I'm afraid. I hope it doesn't rule out potential IVF, if required.
I was in similar sort of shock after getting my bad AMH results (3.1, that was back in April 2011), because it was the first time anyone had found anything 'wrong', and the unexplained infertility was no longer unexplained.
+++++++
AFM - still lurking. Hoping some serious weightloss might do something, who knows. At any rate, getting insulin levels in check might help (Dukan is low carb.) So 8 weeks in and 25 pounds and 5 BMI points down now, BMI is now 29 (which makes me 'overweight' - hoorah!)
Good luck everyone..0 -
TCD it's horrible isn't it. I'm the type that likes to run every possible scenario around my head so if I didn't know, like you, it would kill me.
Try and sleep tonight and ask to speak to someone tomorrow. I can see no reason why they would make you wait unless they are stacked out with appointments.
Love to you xxx
Clomid ladies - anyone get awful headaches??First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/140 -
teaandcakeordeath, although different i have a bicornate uterus so it is almost split in 2, like lilly i think, i had my boys 17 & 19 years ago, the pregnancys were not that straightforward and 1 was 4 weeks, annd the other 6 weeks early, and both c sections as they were breech, but i only found out about my uterus last year, what i'm saying is you have overys and a small uterus so with plenty of monitoring it should be possible, i hope you get some answers soon x0
