Sorry I can't search as I'm on iPhone so this may already be somewhere.
We've Been trying for 12 months with no joy so we now want to book with the doctors. Can you please advise me what we can expect on the first visit, and should we go in together?
Thanks
Hi
Welcome to the board I hope you stay is short.
I would book an appointment you don't necessarily need to go together though it might help if your Dr is not very forthcoming. They will probably request that your OH does a sperm sample first to check everything is OK there, its easier for the men so they normally start there, then they may request blood tests from you to make sure you are ovulating. Pretty simple things at first and hopefully not to daunting. Don't be put of if you Dr tries to brush you off tell him you want some tests done to make sure everything is ok.BEST WIN LAST YEAR - MULBERRY HANDBAGSENDING STICKY VIBES TO THOSE WHO NEED THEM0 -
Hi everyone,
Got to go in tomorrow for transfer at 1pm, through I may get a phone call in the morning asking me to go Thursday instead as they will look at them then and make the decision, this is fun trying to sort this round work, luckily I have 2 very good bosses!
I actually hope they postpone it till Thursday then they will be blasto's. Is this considered a better chance of success?
Hope everyone is ok.
Welcome whattodonow, good luck with your doctor hopefully it will be a fleeting visit to this forum x0 -
Hi Ladies,
I have been lurking for the last few days, i didn't even realise this thread/ board existed. I am normally on the debt free boards.
I just wanted to wish you good luck for tomorrow sillysausage.
I had my transfer on Friday, and in the 2ww now and i am absolutely doing my own head in. The last three days have felt like they have gone on forever. I have been ttc for about 3 years now.
Everyone seems so supportive on here.SPC 18 Target £200 /0 -

Good luck silly sausage
Welcome ever the optimist  and good luck with the 2ww - when will you test?
Welcome whattodonow  I remember you from the ttc threadI think it depends on your gp tbh. I went with my husband, but actually my gp just simply referred me to the gynae (back again, anyway - I'd already been and had pcos diagnosed, so that might be why? Cos my gynae did say to go back by x date if no luck). I like having my husband there with me; it includes him in the process, and he remembers stuff I don't too

SillySausage - keeping fingers crossed for you.
Whattodonow - welcome. I went to gp on my own and they organised blood tests for me and then DH went to his doctor to organise SA and then when all the results were in, I went back to my gp who referred us both to fertility specialist - our case may be different though as DH and I are registered at different surgeries.
Evertheoptimist - welding one to the thread, hope 2ww goes quickly for you and you get your BFP.
BZ - how you doing?
AFM - I am waiting to hear from clinic with details of patient evening so we can find out about ivf and when we can start the treatment. I am in the 2ww at moment too at 5dpo but not holding out much hope of it happening naturally.0 -

Yes. For two reasons. This is how it was explained to me...
1. Eggs fertilise in the fallopian tube. It takes them about five days to reach the womb by which point they're blastocysts (if all is going well). Putting an immature fertilised egg into the womb is actually putting it into a foreign environment because ordinarily it would still be in the fallopian tube.
2. The embryo quality can be better assessed the older it is (up to a point of course - we don't grow entire babies in the lab!). If you liken it to a marathon, in the first few miles you'll not have a very good chance of predicting who will win. In the last few miles, chances are you'll be able to pick the winner. Waiting until an egg reaches blastocyst stage is like waiting until the end of the race and seeing who's doing best.
That's not to say that earlier transfers aren't successful; it's just there's a bit more luck to it, particularly if the embryologist is having to choose which embryo(s) to put back. I had a successful transfer on day 4 (the day typically before blastocyst) which some clinics never do because the embryo is thought to be in a state of transition and not particularly stable. Just goes to show, if the embie's up to it, things tend to work out just fine. HTH and good luck"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Thanks for all the welcomes.
I test on Saturday 2nd June. I am trying not to be too positive. I had my first fresh IVF cycle in December and got a BFP. I miscarried at 6 weeks.
Although the consultant said it was a chemical pregnancy which i get from the definition of it. However the feelings and pain i had were like contractions then i passed the 'bab' it didnt feel like just a late period to me.
Anyway just trying to be realistic. Im positive that i got the BFP, first one ever, however doesnt mean this will definitely be a BFP.
Whattodonow - for me it feels so long ago now, but we both went to GP i had to have blood tests and hubby had the sperm test. We were then referred to fertility specialist, who did another blood test, another check on hubby, although i think thats cos his results werent conclusive.
For me because they couldnt find anything wrong with bloods i then had a HSG to check my tubes. we had checks for infections - HIV, chlamydia ect. Then we were referred to a private clinic on the NHS and have had a number of treatments since.
I guess the protocol they follow will depend on what they find with each check and test they do.SPC 18 Target £200 /0 -
Good luck sillysausage - hope all is going well xxx
Fingers crossed for all those of you in 2ww
Bigz - how are you and OH doing. Keeping strong I hope xxxx
Got my letter from clinic this morning confirming I'll be starting treatment next month:eek:. Wanted to cry when I read it - made it far too real!! Just a quick question for all you lovelies who have been through IVF - what was egg collection like? How long before you were back at work? Did you tell work why you were off?
Hope everyone is doing well - hopefully this beautiful sunshine is lifting the mood. I'm sat here with a lovely glass of Pimms!!!:D0
