Enjoy your time with DH qq

2a - fingers crossed this is your cycle xx

Now I know I don't post much as I often don't know what to say:o. All I seem to do is ask questions!!!

At last we've had our appointment at FS and are going ahead with IVF (next cycle, too scared for this one and we keep saying, 'we'll wait just one more month, it might happen'!!). Today is CD2 so we'll prob be starting around the beginning of June. To say I'm scared is an understatement!!! I keep changing my mind ranging from 'I want it to start right now' to the other extreme of 'are we really sure this is a good idea?'.

Anyway, obviously when I'm in my right mind, yes of course this is a good idea. I need to stop waffling and get to the point of what I wanted to ask :D ......What is IVF really like? I'm hoping I'm ready for the emotional side - both our families know and my DH is pretty awesome when it comes to support. Just not sure what to do about telling work? What about injecting and the drugs? Did you manage it ok? How were the side effects? What about egg collection? It sounds pretty horrific:eek: to me!! Mild period pain??? I can't see it somehow!!!

Right, that really is the end of my waffling!!! Sorry for all the questions!

It's natural to be scared but you've said it yourself... 'When I'm in my right mind, yes of course this is a good idea'.

That's what you need to hold on to. When you start to (understandably) worry, it's the worry that's clouding your judgement and making you apprehensive. My motto in life... never make a decision about anything when you're scared; always make it when you're feeling positive.

Injecting yourself is so easy, my lovely. Unless you're needle-phobic (which I assume you're not) it's quick and painless. Go for your fattiest place (my gut helped me out there!) be it your thighs or stomach and vary the site each day. You might get a little bruising but this is nothing to worry about, nor does it hurt. I got absolutely no side affects from the hormones; of course IVF is emotionally challenging but physically I found it far easier than I expected.

You don't need to tell your work anything, but bear in mind that you'll need a few appointments to check that your eggs are growing nicely plus you'll need a few days off after the egg collection. If you have a sympathetic boss or colleague then it might be better to confide in them, but if not, then keep it to yourself. Obviously this will depend on how easy it is for you to take time off, but don't feel that it's better *this* way or *that* way - it's up to you.

For my egg collection I was sedated (boy those drugs are good!) so I felt nothing. Nor did I have any pain afterwards. You do need to take it easy though (the sedation takes a day or so to wear off completely) and most clinics will advise you rest up for a while. Egg transfer is painless (and lovely).

The most stressful parts for me were waiting until the next day after collection to hear from the embryologist and then obviously the wait until you take the test. You can't avoid these stresses; it's part of IVF and nothing you do really makes much difference. You've invested all your emotions and dreams in this; it would be crazy to think you could just switch off and forget about it all. Keep talking things through with your husband. It makes you feel less isolated and helps to bring your closer. It really is something you're sharing so keep supporting each other.

The thing to remember is... this is your chance of having your baby. A good chance too. You will never, ever regret it.

  • Hi,

Had my 2nd scan this morning they have found 1 good sized folicle and 3 little ones. The nurse also seemed a bit concerned that my lining is a bit thin. I now have to wait till 4pm for a phone call as they are going to have a meeting about me to see if they are going to continue. Im trying to stay postive but feel gutted that this cycle may be over.

Will let you all know what happens...

For me, it was quite exciting:) It felt like we have started TTC properly for the first time:cool:

I was fine with injections, as it's a very fine needle. I pinched about an inch of my stomach and injected there. Easy:)

Just needed to remember when to inject (had to do it in a toilet when working).

As for EC, I was under GA, so felt nothing:p
ET was over very quickly, painless and was quite exciting watching the embryo go in via the monitor:)

Got OHSS so had a rough time afterwards and BFN was hard:o

I've done 4 ECs and 1 ET so far, and I have another ET planned for next month:)
    I'm not fed up yet:cool:

You can't compare different tests. The sensitivities are different, the dyes can be less concentrated, all sorts of reasons why one test gives you a strong result and another gives you a 'weaker' one. Digi's are about the best though - if they say you're pregnant, you are. :)

I understand why you're worried though. Will your clinic do an HcG test for you? You can't rely on HPTs to tell you how your pregnancy's progressing.

they have said to carry on taking my meds and test again on tuesday and let them know the result, so i'm just trying to be positive.

  • Runner - Fingers crossed everything is ok, like Fluff says all tests can give slightly different results. x

Countrybum - I found the 1st round of IVF more emotionally stressful then the actual procedure its self as I didn't know what to expect when. Hopefully if you do have IVF it will work 1st time for you but even though this 2nd attempt isn't exactly going to plan I'm a lot more relaxed as I now know what is going to happen (hopefully!) Good luck to you xx

Well I had to go in for another scan this morning, according to the nurse today I don't have a big follicle at all think it was a blood vessel they were looking at yesterday?!! but I do have 3 small ones biggest being 7mm. They want me to continue stimming until Tuesday then come in again for another scan they will then make the decision then.

The good news is if they do abandon this cycle it wont count towards my tries which was the thing that was bothering me the most.

At least they are giving these little follicles a try.
