  • plumpmouse, it sounds like you need a break to get yourself feeling better. I find hormone upsets really difficult to deal with, and have had to have quite a lot of time off in the past to cope with it. I am sure your doctor will be sympathetic if you explain how you feel.

  • Has anyone here used a fertility monitor? Any good? Easy to use? Results?

I've given up on the daily POAS as I keep missing ov but doc says my inital bloods were fine as was dh test. I'm on cd16 so would use it next month if no joy this, just dont want to waste my money if they are yet another gimmick as they are very expensive!

shel, if I remember correctly, shleey was 'trialing' clearblue monitor. I am on first month of using mine, but I also on clomid, so my results might be a bit skewed. So far I am on CD14, started testing on CD6, when I got low and then from CD7 till this morning all highs.

Some say they work, other say they don't - I think it all depends on you. I have no problems with it so far. But would rather see that peak sooner than later. My temperature hasn't jumped up yet, so I know I have not ovulated yet.

I can't talk about any success rates as yet as it is just first month and I am only half way through!

  • _shel - I use one, was lent it by a hyper-fertile friend  Think I've got her money's worth out of it though!
OPKs never catch my ov as I think a) I'm a bit crap at the poas timing and b) I ov at a random time of day. I've had a clear pattern of highs and peaks from the cbfm though, so if you can justify the expense I'd say go for it (refill sticks are cheapest on Amazon - £11 delivered :money:)

Does anyone know what drug is chosen first? clomid or metformin, iv prob read more girls havin clomid but wandered why not metformin as its an insulin based problem

Hiya. I was put on Metformin 1st - supposed to be for 6 months but I stopped after 2.5 months as I couldn't cope with the side-effects, and then went on to Clomid for 6 months. My PCOS is quite mild I'm told, my periods were slightly erratic but not too bad, but I do have the extra weight to contend with. I was advised to try the GI diet, partly for weight, but mostly because it can help with the PCOS. Didn't particularly work for me, but a couple of girls at my clinic had good results with it and both got PG, so it must work for some!

_shel, I'm using the CBFM also - it has been a few months now and is great at what it is there for, my only complaints are the cost - and more importantly - I'm still not pregnant!

Hello all, here goes another week. How's everybody doing?
  • Hi all,

I am also using the Clearblue fert monitor. Have been using it since October last year. It has been useful, particularly when the blood tests I had with the doctor was telling me I wasn't ovulating, when CB was informing me otherwise - helps to be able to challenge that the dates for the blood tests were wrong.

I find it very easy to use, but like the others, I find the cost prohibitive and actually bought mine on ebay.

Well I ov'd this month and so we will see if luck is on our side.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

    Hi
I'm using the CBFM too. I've been using it for 10 months now and am sadly obviously still here! I think they are very good for really knowing your cycle and it has helped me enormously with that as it's way easier than temping and I never got a positive on opk's. As Angelavdavis said it really helps with knowing your ov date for blood tests etc. I have problems with my prolactin levels and have found that the monitor helps me keep a really close eye on my cycle to spot if levels seem to be screwing up my cycle again! I bought mine off ebay too and I would say it's worth it but don't expect miracles!
  • Glad everyone is well, I must admit, I am thinking of buying one of these too. Cant really afford it, but my cycle is so screwed that I think I need to know what is going on. I think !!! my cycle is roughly the right length, but I am bleeding for nearly 2 weeks, although tbh it is really only a dribble for quite a while at the end, then only 10 days to 2 weeks til the next period. Doesnt allow much time for bding and I havent got a clue at which point I am oving, as I am not getting that 'urge' at all (in fact I dont really fancy it at all which doesnt really help!)

    sorry for tmi!!! Lilo

  • Thanks guys, think I'll get one from ebay, but wont expect miracles. I would like to know how my cycle works though because it is annoying me not even knowing if I've ov'd or if we are even trying on the right days.
