Hello cedrickerry - welcome to our club. I agree with FE - you should go back to GP and ask to be explained what are your options and to be referred to the specialist. Our GP was great at this as he has been through this himself (although they fell pregnant naturally after they got the specialist appointment) - I don't want to lose him! We have moved house a few months ago, but still haven't changed address with GP as it would mean we have to find another practice..

Oh - I also put him on a 'healthy sperm diet' for our 3rd attempt - I can't remember who wrote it, but the book is called something like 'getting pregnant faster' - lots of healthy eating and tonnes of vitamins and mineral supplements! Can't tell 100% if it was that but I followed the advice too, and (fingers crossed) it's so far so good for us this time!

Good luck with whatever you decide,

    FE -x-

The book is by Marilyn Glenville and I recommended it, as we were also told that we had no chance of conceiving naturally due to husband's high abnormal sperm count and low motility. We both followed the diet for 2 months, and I am 9 weeks away from the birth now, so I would also recommend it as worth a try at least :D
  • Hello all. I'm a newbie to this thread. I just wanted to query if anyone has conceived after a tubal ligation using IVF or other fertility treatment.

I have looked into the costing of IVF and the % chance of conceiving at my age (37). Obviously, I have the added difficulty of a tubal ligation against me. It would give me a positive feeling if there are others in the same boat as I am :)

    Thanks

I had IVF at 37 - I hadn't been sterilised though. However, I assume you have been pregnant before, so you know you can produce eggs? The successful results do go down as you get older, so I would suggest doing it asap.
Your BMI will have to be within a certain range for IVF.
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.

I have had 1 child 11 yrs ago. Got sterilized due to health reason relating to the pill.

Hello devil - late welcome from me!

Nothing new here. We might be going out today to spend some time together - our wedding anniversary (one of therm!!!) is on Tuesday, but I thought we can do something together today and then just have a nice meal on the day (or the following day use Orange 2 for 1 and go to see new Harry Potter and have a pizza at Pizza Express - very MSE!!!)

I think I got back my hopeless optimism after lap&dye - somehow I believe (today) that all I needed to get that illusionary BFP as to clear my tubes (twice - once with HyCoSy and then lap&dye). I keep looking for nursery furniture and thinking which room of this enormous house would be best suited for nursery (I want it to be spacious and fit all I want there). Probably not good for my mentality, but I can't hold myself back. I was very tempted to ask OH to stop in some baby shop yesterday to look around, but managed to hold myself back - he would have thought I am really gone crazy.

Oh well, AF is due the week I get back to work, so that will dampen my spirits - have no wish to go back to work! Although, just two weeks and then I am off for another week of holiday (going back home, so nothing too exciting)!

Hi ginvzt, nothing wrong with optimism!

Welcome to the newcomers cedrickerry and the devil made me do it - great name! As nicki said, doing the change of diet thing, plus the supplements has been very successful amongst the OHs on this thread, and has returned some of the sperm results back to normal so well worth doing. A recent success, nottslass is over 40, and few of the others are late thirties/early 40s so you are not alone in the age. I assume if they have just blocked or tied your tubes, they can carry out IVF effectively, I believe the success rates are in the region of 10%, it may be a little higher at 37. Certainly that is what I have always been quoted by consultant.

And as FE says, cedric, ask for a referral to the fertility clinic for further tests and where to go now, I believe you have to be seen within 3 months. They will be able to talk through your options and give you the next steps. I take it you have had no further investigations than blood tests? If this is the case they will usually do other tests to check your fertility as well depending on what they see as your way forward.

    Lilo

Ps sorry this is all a little random, I have a rotten cold and cant think straight - we went to a picnic concert yesterday and got absolutely soaked, so what was a cold is definately MAN FLU now LOL

    Hi Ginvzt,
For fear of encouraging rrational behaviour, my friend conceived her daughter the day after hycosy after 2 years of trying!

Thanks for this, I think I might have another day in front of computer planning my 'future nursery'. I don't think there will be any luck this month as we only managed to do it once and I bled so much afterwards, I was getting worried that I may need to go to hospital and couldn't sleep much that night at all. Although, it was on CD14...
