Definitely male factor issues too, we're both ready for the scrap yard! Terrible results on all male factor issues, as well as pcos & endo from my side.

It's a miracle we got as far as we did really.

Yes that's basically right TL & tea. He said that if it was going to work it would have by now as my body had responded well since cycle 1. I've had 3 cycles of clomid now and today was my 3rd tracking scan.

I had my tubes checked a while back during a laparoscopy.

I have no idea what next step is but I'm guessing Iui? Will find out in 3 weeks.

Thanks for the support ladies xx

I got pg on cycle 4 - and had responded well on previous cycles. Who knows if it was the Clomid. Do you still have more to take?
I've got secondary infertility and have been TTC #2 for 18 months (different partner).
He's been checked and is ok and I've had tubes checked and blood tests and we're now waiting results but were told chances are we'll be put on clomid.
However we've just been given a date for our next appointment and its not for another 3 months and , like everyone, its very stressful and upsetting.
We were thinking of going private so we can be seen quicker but a nurse advised us to be v careful as we'd end up paying for everything if we did that and we have limited funds.
What I don't understand is, other than the initial consultation and possibly Clomid, what else we would have to pay for? Any IVF we had would have to be self funded as I've already got one child?

Do we bite the bullet and go private or do we wait? Any advice anyone?

I would go private. My initial appt was £180. Follow ups £90 (£180 if I had internal scan). Private prescription for Clomid £25. I had to have lap -£450 and then op to have tubes unblocked. Had the op private but managed to get this done on private insurance - although could have had it done on NHS

My DH has poor results too, although we have had three tests now and the results do vary a lot. (zero, 15m, 3m) All still low. The most frustrating part is that you can't MAKE them do anything about it! I know that if I nag him he will snap and we will argue, but I also find myself tensing up when he sits for hours with the laptop on his lap, or wears tight undies when I bought him boxers. (although I have to admit he looks better in the normal tight boxers! And those floppy boxers moving about can't be comfortable.)

It feels like it is so easy for him to make a few small changes, when I am doing so much - or well, I was at least. It's just ANOTHER thing wildly out of our control! And most likely it would make about as much difference as the many many things I've changed that have had zero result. And it's unfair to be angry at him, when really its just an overall !!!!y situation.

Sorry, probably not helpful, but just sharing a bit of partner frustration. At least now we have ICSI as an option, which does eliminate the problem - albeit at very high cost emotionally and financially.

ETA: But I do love him dearly. He's been amazing though a tough time, and never complained about his infertile, unhealthy wife, who he can't even BD with most of the time!
  • I was wondering does anyone on here have any experience with getting better SA results other than the walnuts thing? I'm trying to come up with plans for when IVF goes tits up and I've looked back at OHs results... I compared it to my FF chart for that month and have noticed that the week before the first test we had come off a 9 day straight BD spree (OH was fed up and decided that was the month we'd get the BFP). Some of those days though we BD'd more than once so we'd BD's about 13-14 times in 9 days... I'm wondering if that's knackered his count or if it wouldn't have made a difference... Do you think it's worthwhile asking/ paying for a repeat test? You can see from below that the results improved by double in a week...

    My OH results were:
    15/02/13
    Sperm Concentration (M/ml) 10.00
    Morphology (normal) 8%
    Excellent Progression 5%
    Sluggish Progression 3%
    Motility Index 0.80

    22/02/13
    Sperm Concentration (M/ml) 14.00
    Morphology (normal) 5%
    Excellent Progression 9%
    Sluggish Progression 5%
    Motility Index 1.96

Sorry for the TMI- I'm just clutching at straws but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of something like this playing a part? I'm desperate for OH to get a good result as he feels 'less of a man'- his words, not my thoughts!

I had my pre-op meeting this morning (laparoscopy and dye). She said if I, miraculously, get pregnant this cycle the appointment will be cancelled. But I'm concerned that if I do get, miraculously, pregnant and we try for a second and have secondary infertility then I can't have the operation through the NHS. I want to know my tubes are OK. Is the lap and dye part of the fertility treatment the NHS won't pay for?
Becca - I don't really know the risks. The research I can find (which isn't much) says the miscarriage risk is higher, but its hard to get good comparatives. The surgery can be done different ways - via the abdomen, via the v@gina (which I had), sometimes they leave a little cervix, sometimes they don't, and there are only 1500 or so people in total who have had the surgery at all.
time2deal were you researching the risks of a laparoscopy? As I'm now more concerned as I'm about to go for my second.

After my MC as was told, by a family member, the chance of getting pregnant in the next month was higher. Probably because of the raised hormone in the system. Unfortunately that did not work for me.

My boobs have been sore for the last week. I'm really trying to not get excited. Ever since my MC my PMS changed and occasional sore boobs is one of the new symptoms. Thanks to a lady on here who said following a pregnancy and there's a new normal for periods and symptoms. Without that comment I probably would have been an emotional wreck a few more times than I have been.

And now for my bitter comment:
Do you ever see women who have many children; see they are pregnant again and think 'you're using up my quota'? It's crazy but I did last week.

Just caught up on your scan news now Becca - big hugs xx
As I'm on CD2 I'm joining you in the chocolate and wine corner in sympathy - I've just eaten a big sugary waffle that made me feel loads better!

I received a letter from the FS today - basically just a copy of the update letter that he sends to my GP. Only a few lines long but it really p***ed me off!

It started off quite positive.... "Since I last saw Squirrel, she has lost almost a stone and is taking her metformin regurlarly and her periods are now regular..."
However it ended by saying "I will see her in 2 months time when I hope she will be at an appropriate BMI"

What! I don't even know what is implied by that? An appropriate BMI for someone who is desperately trying to lose weight?? Or just an appropriate BMI?
To me it reads as the latter, which means he expects me to lose over 2 stone in the next 2 months (well less than that now seeing as my appt was 2 weeks ago). Does he even live in the real world?
I am very proud of what I have done so far but feel like cr*p tonight, like I am obviously not trying hard enough.

No! Don't worry - I've had a rare operation for treatment of cervical cancer. A trachelectomy. Nothing to do with fertility directly, just an inconvenient location for a cancer if you want to have kids.

Update: Here is the detail if you have the courage to read it!
    Radical Vaginal Trachelectomy
  • I forgot to mention T2D- you inspired me to go and get my long overdue smear the other day so thank you!
