I presume by "people" you mean the staff?

Up to a point I agree with you. HOWEVER, the feeling I get is that they're disgruntled with all the changes that have been made. Where at one time one person was in charge of two beds at a time now they all just seem to flit about doing what needs to be done and very often looking crabby! Last time I went four different members of staff dealt with me whilst on my donation "couch"! They're constantly busy it seems and perhaps feel under pressure.

In response to an earlier post, yes the new thing is to get people to sit up as soon as they've finished...it came as a surprise to me that t does actually work. Normally I have an extra 5 minutes lie down (go waffy otherwise!) but they insisted I sit up rightaway last time.

Those who need to up their iron levels through diet should check on t'internet. I was surprised to read things such as gingerbread and certain dried fruits (figs are one) can make a difference. And don't drink tea with meals, apparently it affects iron absorption.

Like you I live in the sticks but check for sessions in my area. The nearest is 6 miles away, but there are loads of others.
Like Ice, I'm back in June
Hi, not going back in June now, am having a small tattoo done on the 15th, so 6 months for me, but I don't understand about the staff, our staff are all very happy go lucky people and full of positive things to say, I do think they do a very good job though, and are always full of enthusiasm great bunch we have up here.
Although I do believe in the smile and the whole world smiles with you.

they will have too. :p my less than 1 pint, wont make much difference to be honest, and I am doing the, things before you die list, I am not getting any younger, and I would like a small tattoo, so why not do it now, any older and I wouldn't concider it.
    :rotfl:
Not a fan of tattoos but I would never deny your ambitions, at least in England you only have to wait 6 months before you can donate again, in Scotland it is 12 months.

I gave what might be my last donation for a while today, I am to get an assesment for my diabetes in a couple of weeks and depending on the outcome of that will determine my suitability for my next blood donation.

They had to wait longer for some of my pints with having two children and surgery. :)

Good on ya Ice! If I was going to have a tatt I know 2 good artists, but I'm not brave enough to do something I might regret later!!

Living where you do probably means you get the Leeds lot, which on the whole are an excellent bunch. (I have my favourites ;) and the ones I don't want near my veins ever again!!)

I agree with you entirely about smiling - it makes such a difference.

Just a little message to bump the topic up!

Booked next appointment for the 5th of May.

Also, there's a nice new platelets website.

I hope to start donating platelets in October when I am settled in one place for the foreseeable future.

[edit] forgot to mention that stocks of O- are running low at the moment so you universal donors are in even more demand! [/edit]

My visit went smoothly yesterday and there were lots of people there. The appointment system seemed very popular with the turn-up-and-hopers being told of an hour wait.

They had signs up telling people to have a drink of water before donating. I always load up on water before I leave for the session but it's good to remind people in case they have forgotten, especially as we head towards the (hopefully) hot summer.

O neg donors are still high desired with only 3 and half days stock in storage.

I have only just found this thread after donating my 24th pint (well, just under!) the other day. Well done to all of you who donate! Am hoping i can get my 25th donation in before surgery later in the year. I like the new give you a pint of water idea, although i usually have a couple of pints before going anyway...had to nip to the loo before they put the needle in:o
    Smoke free since 30/01/13 :j
  • I did this today! Donation no 9 for me. I did wonder why all the water was there with massive cups. Nobody said anything though.

Oh well, got my cuppa and biccies. And a nice keyring with my blood group on.

Have sent my (O neg) OH to do his part. Hoping he doesn't pig out on the biccies and crisps and ruin his dinner.

Off to donate my O neg blood again on Thursday. Haven't been able to donate since last year because I had to have an op to remove my gallbladder, but I'm back and raring to go again! :)
