Ah well, a wasted 'thanks' then! Lol. (I do get a bit 'thanks' click happy sometimes - just love to spread the love. Heh heh) Perhaps Freemonster would like to 'thank' people who do give blood - if they don't actually do so themselves?
Go on Freemonster - get clicking!0 -

ChelseaGirl wrote: »Thanks. Yeah, mine was gallbladder removal too. The surgeon that did it had performed over 2000 gallbladder removal ops, mostly by keyhole surgery. My GP encouraged me to go for the op and said that she hadn't seen anyone in the past few years that needed open surgery.
Well, it had to be me didn't it! I've got the keyhole scars and a lovely big scar under my rib cage. Apparently, the surgeon removed my gallbladder by keyhole surgery, but I wouldn't stop bleeding, so he had to open me up to find the source of the bleed - my liver. So my 30-45 minute op took 2 hours 45 minutes...Argh!
I too had complications and had to be readmitted. Hope you're ok now and fully recovered. I'm still struggling. I've got to see my consultant in a week to see if i can start lifting stuff and go back to work yet.
Thanks for your help. x
poor you . me too i told my surgeon the one thing i was scared of was an open conversion he said in all his years of doing lap cholys he had never had to convert (all his open proceedures started of as open). there is a first time for everything but why me! took 7 1/2 weeks to heal and have just had to have further surgery as the muscle did not heal. cant give blood for another 6 months. in the few weeks i was able to give blood i had a cold and had to cancel my appointment. hope you feel better soon and have an uneventful recovery,Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
Thanks Mike. My digestive system certainly isn't quite right yet! It's been almost 6 weeks now and i'm starting to get frustrated at how little i can do! I know i'll get there though. Thanks for letting me read your blog, and post my own tale of terror! heh heh0

A very smooth trip yesterday with no waiting around for my appointment probably due to the later time (1830). I also handed in my application to the bone marrow register.

While not wishing any harm to anyone I would like to be called upon before I get too old to donate my bone marrow.0 -

Thanks sillyvixen (feel daft calling you that - but i suppose ChelseaGirl is daft too!). Hope you recover well from your extra surgery. Dunno about you, but i feel really peeved that that i had to have an open conversion. Just typical. Everyone who knows me said it was bound to happen to me. I put off having my gallbladder removed for over four years because i was convinced that it wouldn't go smoothly. Ah well, it's done now and i'm well on the way to recovery. Thanks for your post and take care. x0 -
I have been on the bone marrow register for 16 years and never been called, it shows how difficult it can be to find a match so the more people that register for the panel the more chance someone in need will find a suitable donor.

I've been on the bone marrow register for years too, and have never been called.
Can i just remind everyone to ensure that they update their new address details with the blood service AND the bone marrow register if they move house. You may be needed urgently and you wouldn't be contactable if you don't let them know your new details.
(Someone else to notify when you move house!)0 -

I too have had open surgery and my zipper (as I call it) is an inch below my belly button. My sister had key hole surgery and we called her's press studs. (Family thing.:rotfl:)
If I remember rightly it was six month before I could give blood again.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
