Jimsmum, yes you can, they're not fussed by that but if you're on other medication you have to tell them and they'll decide if you're ok :-)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0

Hi jimsmum,
if you click on this link it will take you through a series of questions to help you ascertain whether you would be eligible to give blood. HTH

How long does it take after giving blood for the first time do you get your card as I've still not received mine after about a month - can anyone remember that far back to their first donation?!0
-
Took them just over a month I think before I got mine
Might have been nearer 6 weeks
I guess they wait till your blood has been tested first time for all the various tests they have to go through

Its getting late so I havent read all the replies, but I think its sad that people assume they can't get to blood donation sessions because of work.
Generally they seem to run 2-4pm, 5-7.30pm and there are plenty of them!
I have genuinely never been able to get to blood donor sessions because of work. Where I live they are only on weekdays and end at 6.30pm and I am working those hours. I am also not in a job where I could pop out for half an hour. Most of my friends are also in a similar situation because many commute to work and work in public service jobs so you can't just nip out. I rang the Blood service and they did mention a 'local' hospital that does all day drop in sessions, but it was 30 miles away - strange definition of local!
I don't think it's surprising that blood donations are down. Most people are working, many are commuting and employers are now more determined to get every minute of work out of their employees.0
