I've always found it difficult to fit around working. Where I lived before, it wasn't too bad as there was a local session, but I've moved now and there are no sessions that I can go to locally.

On this last Wednesday though, I'd taken the day off work to get my car serviced and MOT'd, and had gone into town to do a few things, and went and gave blood while I was waiting until I could pick my car up.

I've found out that in Birmingham (where I live) City Centre they are going to start doing Saturday morning sessions soon, so as I do occasionally go into Brum Centre on a saturday, it should mean I can start going again more regularly.

I really think it's a good thing to do, and would encourage everyone who doesn't go regularly to try and do so if they can.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

While giving my latest donation on 20 june, I tried to persuade the doctor to sign up to the forum so that he might answer some of the questions that have been raised here but he was a bit reluctant. I think if I took the questions to him next time I go (12 July) I would get most of them answered.

I will bump this thread again nearer the time and check for any questions that anyone might have.

First went to give blood when I was 18, but BP was too low.
Then went again after first child but BP was too high.
Now after second child, I can't as I received 3 units of blood and 3 units of plasma.

Someone donated the blood that saved my life. thank you.

I am off to the blood donors this week on Thursday, does any potential donor have any questions that I could raise with the doctor on their behalf?

You can now visit a site, Blood Donor Online, and see what they did with your blood last time! It's really cool!

I just wish I could do something amazing and give blood. Years ago I was on the verge of a transfusion when DS being born. However, my medical condition and meds mean I can't donate. However am proud to say my children both donate regularly. My DH been turned down too because of his cholestrol. (He is also a wimp I am afraid to say!).

After reading some of this thread, I've just registered online to give blood for the first time on Monday.

I'm quite scared of needles and when I've had blood taken in the past it's been a struggle owing to my 'miniature veins', but it's something I feel I should do .. so wish me luck!!!!
